I have always prayed that we would get a foot of snow in the Phoenix area. I would sit on the roof with a six pack & watch the hilarity. People around here can't drive under ideal conditions, & become brain dead morons when it rains, so think of the fun that would ensue if it snowed...:D

About 1-1/2 feet will slow me down-a little. I drove 7-1/2 hours after a blizzard, maybe about 100 vehicles on the road in total. Was about 3" on highways and no traffic.dont think i would do it again unless i had 4wd.

Its been weeks since we had any real amount of snow.
But ugly cold.

"Supposed to get 1" of ice, plus 3 to 5" of snow tonight. It's currently 32° outside and sprinkling. Hasn't started to freeze yet. Wife just called, and there were three wrecks on the interstate with just water :p I had some bone head rear end a car "

Sorry to hear about the ice Daren..I'd rather have a foot of snow than an inch of ice. Hope it doesn't happen.

No worries :D A typical winter storm here is freezing rain, then an inch or so of sleet, then snow for a topper. Makes it interesting getting into your vehicle the next morning. Last year we had a couple inches of ice glazing both vehicles after one storm.

This storm is strange. It raining here, sleet at a friends four miles east of us. And snowing ten miles east of us  I was kinda hoping for a snow day from work

Hearing this makes me realize how much I like country living. No more sitting in traffic and dealing with crazy people, 35 years of that was more than enough for me.

Well I live in the country but have to drive into the city of idiots 5 days a week. Saskatoon has some of the worst drivers in our country, worst part is they should know better. We historically have snow and ice from October til April. It never comes as a surprise but it surprises those idiots!

No Wolfman, they are REALLY THAT STUPID! When there is a dusting I stay off the roads, not because I have problems handling it but the odds of something like this happening are just to great. If I am a hundred miles north, if the vehicle will move, I go. I keep tire chains, snatch straps, shackles etc etc in the vehicles all the time. IF I get stuck on the roads I can get myself out.
I second that .....my wife's mom lives inside the beltway.....

EVEN without a #$%#$%$#@ snowflake they drive like shyte!

I could write a book on the ways that "those" people drive, and then place a little snow on the ground, well then you are talking insane asylum !!!!

snow is starting here at 7 am - gonna get anywhere from 12 - 24" - it will paralyze this place for about 2 days. Shoot - my BX might not make it out of it's coozy shed!!!:D:)

Might be here for the next 48 hours - someone talk to me !!!:)

I lived for many years in New England. We had a exit door on the second floor in case the snow drifted and covered the front door on the first floor.
Exwife had me out going hundreds of miles in every blizzard in the 1990's. I was on Rt. 80 going through PA at midnight in one, not a single vehicle seen for hours as I trudged along at 25 mph. Almost impossible to tell where the rod was, just a slight 'bump/rise' in the snow at the guard rails.
I have never gotten stuck (and I've tried to, being a stupid kid in New Hampshire, drifting corners in a Lincoln.) It is the rest of the people out there that terrify me. They think because they have 4WD they can not only 'go' but 'stop' and 'turn' too.
Home is stocked up with food and fuel for a week. By next Friday, I imagine most of the snow here will of melted as temps are supposed to be in the mid 40's.

Hey Hokie, I'm in the same boat, we gots about 2-1/2" on the ground, at 5:45 PM. I put the blade on the ASV, and moved the home-made snowblower into the barn, for some drive chain work. The chain came off about 5 years ago, when I last used it, and I forgot where I put it. I gots a whole roll of it sitting on the workbench, so I guess I'll take a pass at the road, tomorrow, if the wind lets me, Oherwise I'm gonn fix that damn chain.

Gonna be aweful slow, cutting roller chain wif a hacksaw, and grinding the head off a rivet, with a file, if the power goes off tonite, so I'm gonna pray the power stays on...:D:D

Huttond,
With 316 post across 32 pages it's hard to nail down who's mod you are referring to?
Please at least note the member or post you you are referring to, it would help tremendously. ;)

I sometimes wonder what has happened here in America.
A snow storm, and everyone panics, city kids go nuts, TV makes it look like the end of the world.
Good Lord I remember when I was a kid snow was just that SNOW and we lived with it, the old man put chains on to get to work, we waited for the bus till 9 am if it wasn't there, then we went home.
Its winter for krist sake, it happens every year!! Live with it, move it , play in it, ski, sled, snowshoe, run the quad or snow machine , build a freekin snow man/snow woman with the family.
The roads are snow covered SLOW DOWN, don't go out, stay in and enjoy the quiet, don't watch the weather channel. read a book!
Not to worry cause DC cant operate and the government is closed down, they aint gona dig you out anyway, so do it your self and enjoy the time to contemplate life, and how much we have and be thankful
If you don't have enough stuff in the house to live for 2 or 3 days your in pretty bad shape.
It aint the end of the world as we know it boys and girls,, its just snow and it will melt and everything will be as it was. Guess growing up in the sticks gives one a different perspective of things in life.
OK Im done ranting, well for now anyway

Well said, Skeets -

My school bus used to turn around in my driveway.

One winter day after school, bus slid off driveway and was stuck. Probably 15 kids on the bus.

I was 13 years old or so - I went and got the trusty '53 Minneapolis Moline Z and pulled the bus out. Mission accomplished, and took 5 minutes!!

Today, you'd have 4 ambulances, 4 state police cars, and the NTSB on-site doing a thorough investigation!!:eek:
