Land Pride RFM (1672 Vs 2572) behind a B2650

Looking into picking up one (used) of the two listed mowers. I have several in the area that look to be in good shape. 1672 for 2K, 2572 for 2.5K.

I'm note exactly sure what the differences are between them other than approx 100-150 lbs.

Both of these models are rear discharge. What say you?

I glanced at LP website and at a glance I really did not notice a difference other than the pic, in which the frame of the 25xx looked heavier duty…but they were not in pic together so that could be BS.

I like LP branded implements and I would not hesitate to buy more from them. that being said, if it were my money, i would want to know between the two models if there were any difference in the serviceable areas / touch points to the user (wheels, grease zerks, etc). Maybe check the 3 point top link touch points…do they both have the floating top link? Maybe that matters or not?

if those things check out I think it comes down to do you want a heavier (potentially more robust) implement or not.

if you have hills to go up with your B (I do) then I would opt for the lighter unit if you have HST…assuming you don’t feel you would be better off with the heavier unit.

following your threads and pics it looks like you are careful with your machines and vehicles so I think you pay attention to what doing.

short answer, there’s not a bad choice.

The 2572 is the HD version. I've never seen one in person but it must have a fairly thicker frame or something.

Otherwise by pics it looks exactly identical to my 1672. Tires might be different to.

The 1672 is one tough mower. I have put mine through some pretty bad stuff since late '19 reawakening our property.

I reckon the 2572 must be dang near indestructible.

A 72" finish mower is a lot of mower behind a B2650.

If your on flat ground you may be fine. I run a LX3310 and FDR2584 and it handles it fine on flat ground. I did have it on a LX2610 and low range and slow was my friend. I can mow in medium with the 3310. The 25xx also comes with solid tires. That mower showed the limitations of 19 pto hp of the 2650/2610 for me. That being said, I'm moving on to a L5460 shortly.

I run a 1660 behind my B2650. And it handles it fine. I can cut grass 8”-12” and it goes through it fine just low and slow with the thick grass

Another 1660 behind a B2650 here. With sharp blades and a new belt, the B2650 will run it through pretty much anything but I think it's about the limit, power-wise.

After several years of messing with pneumatic tires, I ponied up for a set of solid-tired casters. Now it's just hook up and go.

It has greaseable spindles, caster shafts and axles and the deck and frame are plenty rugged.

Yup mine came with soils tires. I grease it twice a year and change the gear box oil at the beginning of each season. I have 2 sets of blade. I put a sharp set on at the beginning of the season and then change them about have way through with another set I just put a new belt on mine this year. Not cuz it needed it. The old one was 10 years old.

I expected to see a thicker deck on the 2572. They look remarkably the same on their respective spec pages. The 2572 gear box takes 3.5 pints of lube where the 1672 only takes 2.5 pints. The 1672 hitch is noted as being QH compatible.

I've had LandPride 5 and 6 foot RFM's. The 6 footer was a 1672 that was used on my L3200. They are built well but heavy. I don't think the L3200 would have been so happy dragging another 100# unless the yard was flat.

Thanks all for the replies...Maybe need to go with a 5 footer instead as I certainly don't want to be mowing in low range. Even medium range is painfully slow to me.

Land Pride quality has never been an issue in my experiences. I also have quite a few years of pulling Caroni RFM's. While i can't claim Caroni is equal to Land Pride they're pretty good. They are also much lighter than Land Pride. I've mentioned before that my Ford 1210 handles a 5' Caroni well, but when I tried using the 5' Land Pride from a B7500 I had, the little Ford struggled. The Caroni RFM's weigh in as follows: 5' at 404#, 6' at 497# and 7-1/2' at 710# make them a lot easier for the tractor to handle.

I bought a 5 footer and it was the only mower here for 10 years. It was used hard. I whacked an old cultipacker wheel in a meadow and damaged the "quill" as they call the spindle assembly. Agri Supply has parts available and cheap.

My current RFM is a 7-1/2' Caroni that I bought very used about 7 years ago and re-furbed. If anything awful happens to it I'd go for a new one. The manufacturer recently made a design change, making the shaft of the wheel yokes a little beefier at 1-1/8"Ø.

The photo below is from yesterday. #3 Son & family were here and I didn't want to mow with the kids running around. When I did get started raindrops appeared on the glass. Determined to get 'er done, most of the mowing was done while it drizzled, occasionally needing the wiper. The deck worked well. After the mowing was complete, the underside of the deck was garden-hosed off and green slush plopped to the ground. Fortunately the deck didn't leave green turds in the yard.
