I purchased a used L4200 a few months back and have loved this machine. I have been using is a lot lately and noticed this leak at the front left joint this morning. I'm assuming it's a seal that needs to be replaced and am hoping it's something I can fix myself as I don't want to sink a bunch of money into fixing this as the wife is still grumbling about the original purchase. Any thoughts on what this could be? Also, is this something that a mechanically inclined individual should tackle on his own?

Thanks for any input. Pictures attached.

Get your WSM and Parts manual, and give it a go. The shop manual will take you through it. As long as you have a decent metric toolbox you should be up to the task! Take a jillion pictures while you disassemble it. I always seem to forget to, and end up wishing I had. The parts manual gives you the breakdown of how things go together.

I've heard that you can use 80-90 gear oil in there instead of UDT oil. It may or may not stop the leaking. It's worth a try to nurse it til you have time to fix it. However, if it's leaking badly, the gear lube won't help much.

Yep, changing to 80/90 gear oil might stop the leak & is what I run in mine.

Seal not to difficult to replace, I'd just do it.

Loader work with no, or not enough counter weight on the 3 pt can play hell on the front axle components.

I got it from the parts breakdown that Messicks emailed me. However, now that you have pointed out the correct part number I see that I was reading the wrong parts list. I was looking at the list above the parts instead of below. Thanks Wolfman.

No problem, I've picked the wrong #'s myself before. ;)
