L245DT with Kubota (Arps Model 22) FEL and Kubota B/L4520B (Woods 650) BH
I haven't been on here for awhile, but I'm back, with a request for help.
I was using my L245DT a couple days ago and hear a mechanical "bang" sound. Stopped, couldn't figure out what it was. Kept on going. Every 6 feet or so another "bang". Was thinking this sounded expensive, probably gears. My clutch is a little out of adjustment, and shifting has been difficult, so thought transmission. I put the tractor up on jack stands and ran through all the gears, low and high range - could hear/feel a regular thump, but not in 2wd, so figured it was a front axle thing. Spun the front wheels, nothing. Let the tractor spin the wheels in first while I watched (safety police, shh) and noticed a "jump" at the bearing where the drive shaft connect to the front differential. On closer examination, I could see a crack in the flange of the bearing housing. I pulled drive shaft, pivot pin, steering, and dropped the front axle. When I spun the input shaft by hand it would bind up occasionally. I removed the bearing house/input shaft whenever it bound up and noticed the differential side gear had a number of chipped teeth. That's where I am now - I think I've diagnosed the problem, but fixing it is going to stretch my limited skillset. Suggestions on what to do next? Replace the whole front axle? Can I pull everything apart and replace just that gear?
