l2350 Hydraulics not working

I am able to run ISO 46 in my L2350DT but I am in a hot climate. Did flow fine after warming up recently in 10 degree weather however.
ISO 46 is hydraulic oil, designed for hydraulic-only systems. Very few brands have any additives for brakes or clutch plates. I have seen the results in two M series where ISO 46 was used, it tears the facing off of the brake plates and the Forward/Reverse clutch plates. Nothing that $15,000. wouldn't fix.

UDT has a KV40 of 55 cSt and is an ISO 46 grade tractor transmission oil.

SUDT2 has a KV40 of 37 cSt and is an ISO 32 grade tractor transmission oil.

Careful- since when does ISO rating have anything to do with additives for brake and clutch plates??

It doesn't as Dan replied. BOTH of you alluded to generic hydraulic oils with a viscosity of 46 often NOT having additives. (Cheap, basic hyd. oil). The warning is noted.

I clarified...that in my case, the oil used (a premium version) does in fact have additives and Dan went on to build upon that.

So all is good, you both are right and this post is just for posterity sake.....should someone else read this in the future. Happy New Year....all!

Just to be clear ISO/AW 46 "hydraulic oil" is not "cheap" in either cost or quality. Its just designed for use in traditional hydraulic systems and lacks the additional brake/clutch/final drive additive packages needed for use in common sump tractors.

The enhanced formulations are called Universal Tractor Transmission Oil (UTTO) - e.g. UDT and SUDT2.

No, the screen is in the side of the housing. Couple of bolts hold the cover on. Remove that and extract the screen. Clean it in mineral spirits or something similar or replace.

Your tractor is a circa 1990's (91-98). So newer than you thought. I have the same tractor.


I have the exact same problem as the OP except mine is an L6060 HST. That is no steering, little or no lift for bucket or 3pt and barely will move itself, except mine is an L6060 HST. It was working fine last time I used it a month ago. Started it up on a very cold day and it made a strange sound coming from the hydraulic pump. I since changed the hydraulic pump as the dealer said that might be the issue. Some improvement, but not much. Gears and bearings in the drive adaptor are good. Fluid is full and clean, both fluid and filter have only 50 hours. Dealer told me there is no screen on this model. I am at a loss for what is causing the issue or to look at next?

Has it gotten above freezing since you have the problem?

I expect that water is in your hydraulic system and has frozen and plugged something up.

If it has been in a heated room and still not working correctly then my guess is worth what you paid for it!

If it was below freezing when you had the problem then you may have damaged something besides the pump due to a blockage but I wouldn’t think so.

Can you confirm what ambient temperature your tractor has been stored at when you’re having issues. Also can you tell us what fluid specifically is in the transmission sump?

You want to have a fluid like SUDT2 but I recall that it is named something else in Canada like UDT Premium or similar

Thank you for the suggestion. It has not gotten above freezing since the problem. It was well below freezing when the problem occurred. The tractor is stored in an unheated barn and ambient temperature is same as outdoors, so at this time of year it is in the low 20’s F.

The fluid in the sump is UDT Premium (Canada) which is the same as the SUDT2 according to the dealer. The fluid and filters were changed a year ago and have only 50 hours of use.
