L2250DT squealing propeller shaft

last year my tractor started making squealing noises on occasion when going over uneven ground. the propeller shaft tube that goes from mid pto drop to the front axle is smoking hot to the touch and does not look perfectly aligned . i want to pull the shaft to inspect. there is ( was) a roll pin that gets removed in order to slide a cover back over tube ( one of the roll pin holes has been broken off so the roll pin is not there) . im assuming the cover just slides back? looks like it might need some effort as it wont budge by hand.

thanks

Got the shaft cover and shaft out. The noise was from the shaft rubbing on the interior of the shaft cover. The shaft itself and both splined couplings are true as I rolled them on a flat plate. The shaft cover appears to be straight with no dents. The only thing I can think of is that the mounting tab on the cover is bent or missing a spacer and when it was torqued down it bowed a bit and was riding against the propeller shaft. I've included some pics

There is supposed to be a bearing on the end where you have wear.

Ok that would make sense. I bought it at auction and seeing as the spring pin was missing and broken makes me think the previous owner removed a blown bearing and never replaced it. I'm thinking I could turn the shaft around so I've got a good end to work with and hopefully the bearing will stay put in the shaft cover that is worn.

Does any one happen to have the part number for the bearing?

So I called my local dealer and gave them the info and explained what parts were needed and told them to order the bearing and seals etc that were required. I picked the stuff up today and don't think that they ordered all the right stuff. Here are some pics of the parts breakdown and the parts I received. I believe I'm missing a seal. Also it's shows the snap ring. Is there a groove in the propeller shaft tube that it sits in? Just am curious how far down the shaft I place the bearing? The parts that they ordered were 110, 140, 150 and 170. Seeing as i would need 2 seals to seal the open bearing I'm assuming they missed 120 and 130 from what I can tell? Needless to say the parts counter guy wasn't to sure when I asked.

My apologies I meant to say that they missed part 080 and 120 not 130

Do you have another section of propeller shaft tube?
Pic please, and a pic of the input of your front axle.

Hello. yes there are 2 sections of the shaft tube. i pulled the section from the rear of the oil pan back to the drop box. i have the section shown in the first post as well as the cover that slides over it and fits into the drop box. i will get some pictures this evening.

Here are some pictures. One is of the couplings and tube sections I took off. The others are if the drop box splined end and the shaft splined end as it enters the tube at the oil pan( that's not dirt on the bearing it's red tacky grease)

Which side does the bearing and seal fit, the smaller rear tube or the larger front tube?
And you should have all the parts you need, your style of shaft does not take the other two parts.

I'll check when I get home. I'm assuming the smaller one as that's what I asked for. I only have one seal. Do I not need 2 ,one for each side of the bearing? Sorry for all the questions

I had a look at the bearing and seal I was given and they are the bearing 110 in the parts diagram and seal and spring clip to go with it which got in the front half of the propeller shaft tube 070 which is in place on my tractor and checks out fine. Where my propeller shaft it worn and making contact is at the and of tube 040 near the drop box end. Looking at diagram there is no bearing that goes on that end .

The picture on the left is misleading as it's a different (newer) prop shaft cover than what you have.
You're prop shaft cover is on the right and the assembly of it is not very clear.

Are you saying your short cover has a bearing and seal in it already?
Or are you saying the long tube has a bearing and seal in it on the bell end that fits up to the front axle?

I'm thinking the bearing and seal and snap ring should go in this cover to keep it centered.
Can I see the end of that cover?

Is the long tube bent?
Is the prop shaft bent?

The long tube still in place from the front axle through the oil pan is in place and has a bearing ,seal and snap ring in it currently. The ones I purchased are those and are not needed. The short tube I have removed with the shaft has no bearing in it at either end and I see no bearing for the short tube in diagram and no sign of one ever being there. Shaft is true and not bent as is the tube. The bearing and seal I purchased do not fit in the cover you have shown. The bearing will but there is no room for a seal or snap ring. I'll get some pics for you this evening. I was wondering if it was just me who found that parts breakdown a bit misleading.

Are you saying the tube is three sections?
And yes the parts manual is very misleading for your set up.
Now I'm wondering if your issue is because the drop case is broken?
I thought it was rubbing in the front section of the tractor, not the back of it.

The tube is in 2 sections and then that small cover that acts as a slip joint and slides back to access the coupling and spring pin. There is no side play or end play on the splined end coming out of the drop box. I can snap some more pics if needed.

Ok here is another spitball thought, was the mounting tab on the top or on the bottom:
