Won't start. What compression tester do I use? My automotive one won't work. The air cleaner isn't connected.

You need to get a diesel compression tester and if your compression is less than about 350 psig, you'll need to find out why. Valve adjustment, burned valve(s), bad rings, burned piston crown, blown head gasket, etc

Supposedly Harbor Freight has a gauge set that works with an adapter for the glow plug hole or the injector holes.

Your statement supposes the gauge will work but Harbor Freight has it.
Since I am not sure that Harbor Freight was the correct store, I only supposed they were where to look
My word order states my thought correctly, yours doesn’t.
But it is no big deal either way.
