Hello! I am new to this forum, never having owned a Kubota tractor before. I recently came into a L170 tractor with a loader. It seems like a good little tractor for what I need. It did come with some problems however. The previous owner paid a local dealership to rebuild the motor, however they broke the front crankshaft pulley and discarded the pieces and "lost" the alternator and when he finally got the tractor back it was making a racket when he tried to turn it over. It has never ran since.
I am working on getting it running and need some assistance if anyone can help.
1) The starter is not fully engaging the ring gear on the flywheel. It sometimes will grab, but will mostly just spin freely. The front 1/16" of the ring gear is chewed up. When I measure from the face of the starter flange to the end of the starter bendix gear travel and compare it to the depth in the bellhousing from the flange to the ring gear, the bendix gear falls short and barely engages. With the bit of damage to the ring gear the starter is not driving the flywheel. Is this a common occurrence? I have never seen a starter in anything with such a shallow gear mesh. I am wondering if it has the correct starter. There is no part number on the starter. If anyone has any experience with this problem I would love to hear it!
2) I will get another crank pulley machined, however I would like to know the diameter of the original. If someone could kindly measure the diameter of the pulley on their L170 it would be very helpful.
Thanks you!
