L1501 hood/instrument panel shaking

Hello everyone
I noticed this when i first got it, figured something was loose.
The instrument panel moves right/left a good distance while driving, seems the lugs on back wheels causing this.
I want to paint it, but concerned the oscillating will rub the paint off.
Should i add brackets to stiffen it or will something else break?
I dont think less air pressure will help, if anything will make it worse and damage tires.
Anybody else experience this?

I have the same issue. I think it's a little bit of a design flaw, but also think the mounts were designed to do that to cut down on vibration to the fuel tank. It kind of sucks that they used the same mounts for the dash. Mine doesn't show any signs of rubbing in the paint though.

Are you gonna pimp it out when you repaint?

I'm planning on doing mine in the spring when it's too wet to do anything. Repaint, Add some skull blinkers to the back and change out the head lights if i can find something that will fit with out much fab work. Rework the front counter weight and get rid of the steel plate off the front so it doesn't stick out so far

Paint, decals (gotta get ahold of vic) some bright lights front and back. Planning on building some accessories-cup holder, finding a mirror that fits the existing bracket. Going to experiment with the shaking bits and if i come up with something i will post it up.

My front hood, and dash shakes like a fat hooker on a cold night.
Perhaps a couple well places bungie cords will eat up some of the wiggle.

Regarding head lights:
Go buy a pair of the rubber headlights with the metal brackets, $10 each.
Chop off the bracket and drill a hole for the wires to come out the ass end.
Send 3 screw thru the back and they're mounted!
My neighbor and I set this up in all of 20 minutes.

Made a mistake though...you pop the headlights out then use nut bolt to secure the rubber boot. Then you put the light back in.

Thats too funny sounds about right though. What was the brand on those head lights? They are pretty ignorant around here. Young kids working in the parts stores. Have to ask by name or all you get is "huh" when your looking for something

The ones on the rear are made by Grote.
It's a standard light assembly.
Your local parts store will carry them.

I bought a set of turf tires off of a B8200. Looks better, nor thumping! BUT it's 2 wheel drive, so didn't have to be real concerned about circumference of tires.

ok guys i read all off these days the posts here and i will disagree with you and how the dash and hood moves, mine is super steady, i can be riding in high gear in every ground and take a steady photo of my instruments.

check all the bolts there and check the plates that hold the dash to the gear case if they have cracks..

Rubber mounted tractor lamps, thats the ticket!!

Thanks meanjean, think i have a couple laying around. Will use wire for high beam to power backup lamp. Should work well.

There are no cracks on any mounting brackets, im thinking i need to fab a cross brace to counteract the motion.

Please do i checked mine, nice and tight. No cracks. Seeing flex in the mounts them selves coming off the tranny when i push side to side. Tight at tranny, tight at tank.

ok here are the photos.
not so much but i think that i understand how they work.
the bracket from the sides just holds the tank/dash the front bracket at the engine is for stability. and i think very responsible the 2 springs that hold the hood down.
when they are attached, in my tractor always the hood keeps the dash steady and no play as you refer.

Mine is identical. If it didnt have rice tires it would be tolerable.

Tooljunkie, mean jean, check your hood by the hinges. Found the metal was splitting by the hinges. Welded the hood back up, and no more thrashing back and forth. Still does it a little on the concrete, but nice and smooth on the lawn

Also put in a power point for a beacon and a hand held spotlight,both outfitted with magnets.

Ok vic has it. The grommet must be worn where it meets the dash. Will have to figure something out.

Tooljunkie, just looked through the parts manual. wanted to get your thoughts on this. couldn't figure out how to get the pics separated on adobe reader to post so you'll have to bear with me.

If you look up the fuel tank, it shows a rubber bushing, part 042, part number 34150-35554. looked at mine, and not seeing that bushing.

Under steering it shows the rubber trim ring on the upper portion of the dash 031 part # 34150-16850

I would assume that vic is talking about part 042 on the fuel tank, but am not really sure
