Will the seat from an L4802 fit an L4701? I would love to upgrade the seat on my 4701.

I for sure don't know first hand, but the driver for this post was this snip from the kubota site. How relative the term "improved" suspension is, I don't know lol.

At least it has arm rests. Otherwise the seat itself looks similar. If I see a L4802 on a dealer lot, maybe I’ll see if they’ll let me test drive it so I can run it over a curb or three to test out the “improved” suspension. If it will run over a 4” curb at 3mph without bottoming out and sledge hammering your spine, that’s an improvement.

One good thing about the stock seat on the 4701 is it probably increases the durability of the tractor. If you’re about to run through a hole or over a log, etc. that seat is strong encouragement to do it slowly and smoothly.

Haha I never thought about the terrible seat that way before. Thanks for helping me see the bright side!

Spot on and thanks for the chuckle! My L2501 seat accomplishes the same.

I did test out an L4802 seat a few months back, and it would be an upgrade. Much cushier.

I inquired with Messicks a while back..the part would be $542, but they couldn't confirm the bolt pattern is the same/it's a simple swap. Would love to confirm if it is.

Neil from Messicks did a video a while back on adjusting the seat - turns out many of these machines have an adjust to stiffen the spring for larger guys. Worth checking that about yours before replacing it.

The L01 seat has an adjustment, or the L02 does? I assume L01. Worth adjusting that to see if it makes a difference if so.

L01. I know nothing about the L02 other than it’s the latest iteration of the L4701.

The L01 seat suspension consists of a pair of springs. The T handle thing shown in the L4701 OM excerpt above (sorry, I just noticed the “L4701” didn’t show in the page) is a screw jack sort of adjustment that changes the pre-tension on those springs. The heavier the operator, the tighter the pre-tension should be set. So, yes there is some adjustment for the spring action. I’m about 220lb so mine is set quite tight.

IMO the basic issue with the seat suspension is there’s very little travel so it has a tendency to bottom out more easily than the Fords, Longs, IHs, Deeres, and Masseys I’ve operated in the past.

If I could get a moderate improvement for $250 or less, I’d probably do it. $500 or more, definitely not even if it made it ride like a cloud. Hopefully that explains how much it actually bothers me. If I REALLY hated it or it was causing me physical problems, I’d be looking into a Grammer air ride even if I had to make significant modifications to mount it.
