I have the L3560 with a cab and it has been a great tractor. Just completed the 200 hour service on it. It has been used for driveway maintenance, LOTS of mowing, brush clearing, fence removing, working on washouts, and many other chores. The cab is nice and I'm thankful my wife talked me into getting the cab. One of the difference between the 2501 and 3560 is the transmission. The HST+ transmission on the 3560 is extremely nice.

Yes it is impressive what it will lift but please don't drive with your FEL that high with a load on or it could be on it's side before you know it.

You are correct not to travel with loads up.

What you can't see in the photo, I stopped there to take the picture before it was going onto the brush pile. The brush pile is where the picture was taken from. To get to this point, you travel with the load up because there is a large dirt pile there that the logs won't pass through, you have to lift over and then place them on the brush pile.

Yes I figured that but was a little worried that some folks that are new to it might think it's alright. Sure wouldn't be the first time on this thread I've seen people make that mistake and end up on their side.

I would much rather have someone question something and potentially save me from an injury (or others) than just assume and not say anything and someone or myself get hurt.

What kind of side work were you going to do?
Some considerations if you are planning on side work.

Will you be working on grass/lawns or needing to drive on grass to get to the work?
Will you be driving on septic systems?
Will you be operating near houses/garages/vehicles and people?
If yes on those the 2501 will be better suited.

Doing side work and do you want a cab?
Will you be needing to communicate with customers/people while on the tractor?
Will you want maximum visibility?
Will you need to maneuver around trees a lot?
Will you be needing to get on and off a lot?
Do you have a garage or shop you need to fit into that a cab would hinder?
If yes on those, you would be better off without a cab.

I do side work with a tractor and personally, I would never have one with a cab mainly for the reasons listed above. I still do snow removal in the winter (plow and pusher) and that can be cold, but we also go out and snowmobile in it, so cold is a relative thing. I do have a ROPS canopy with a fan mounted for sun/cooling that tends to keep the bugs off and that would make a nice addition to the 2501. I tend to do a lot of lawn work and work around houses and driveways so for the type of side work I do the cab and weight would hinder me in a lot of situations.

If you are going to be doing mostly field work get the Grand 60 ;) (y).

Side work is completely different in that it isn't about your needs, but the needs of the person you will be helping. So I have to go back to the first question,
What kind of side work were you going to do?

If the side work is to help finance the tractor (i think I saw that), then if you buy a cheaper tractor you need less side work to pay for it. An L2501 is significantly cheaper than a Grand L.

If the idea is to get a tractor you really want (say, a Grand L), and the side work is a way to pay for that tractor whilst you get to drive it, then you should get the tractor you really want.
