Since you're getting a new tractor and grapple, I'll just give 2 cautions.
Sticks tend to stick through and damage front grills. There are numerous stories on here and examples of brush guards to protect the grill.
Use extreme care when driving over vines, sticks, and logs. There are lots of wires, hoses, rods, etc under there that can be hooked and pulled.

Welcome Kim.. PoTreeBoy brought up a good point on being careful.. you and the tractor at stake! Whenever you remove the MMM "belly mower" to do dirt work or whatever may require removal of it, be careful when running through even small limbs, sticks because you have a small cooling fan directly under your seat area.
I'm talking about under the tractor in that area. It has a small shield that will not yield much protection. The fan itself is very reasonable, But the labor involved is Not! Just so you know.. There are nice aftermarket ones that work great and take only a couple minutes to put on and take off.

Oh, and check the oil in the front axle. This seems to be an area the factory and dealer overlook. The procedure is in your Operator's Manual.

I always thought the picture of the gal on a horse herding sheep with a kid would make it clear. Guess the resolution of the picture leaves something to be desired.

I didn’t have much question on your gender based on a variety of prior posts but the picture of the red clad rider; if I was under oath I’d have to pass on the gender identification. Maybe it’s because I’m looking at it on a phone, but this is what I see…

In context the subject matter is clear. The gender of the rider, maybe only because a cowboy who is actually a boy wearing a fire engine red outfit is a bit odd, but could be Marty Stuart and Porter Wagoner out there tending the sheep.

And yes, tractors are definitely for girls, at least they are for mine.

Kim, you have to realize there are many more men than women on this site. Women will pop in and make a comment or post a question, but you may have to lead the pack. You may also not be able to tell gender by someone's moniker! There is a woman member who is very knowledgeable about the newer tractors and how the engine works to keep clean and I've seen where someone makes a comment and refers to her as "sir" because they presume......

My wife has never been on this site. May have glanced over my shoulder to see something I was commenting about, but she is not very passive about a Kubota tractor forum. She does spend many hours mowing during grass growing season. It's her passion. She has a zero turn (with a Kubota engine) and mows more often then really necessary. She checks the fuel, oil, water before starting and cleans all the grass of the deck, seat and radiator screen before parking it. I provide the fuel and make sure it's greased.

But if you find operating equipment as relaxing, operating a tractor is much less expensive then a psychiatrist!

Welcome, and have fun. Hope you get that coat back in the closet soon also.

I think I’ll lean towards tractoring being relaxing and predict I’ll learn maintenance in no time.

KimL welcome - As someone has already mentioned about grill guards with grapples I want to add any tractor with a front loader should have a good grill guard I can think of many times lifting things with bucket hooks that once the load left the ground it would twist or swing into the front of the tractor. Good grill guards are just a great mod for any tractor with a front loader.

Does the mower deck offer protection or risk damage? Or is it best to remove it when grappling?

Unfortunately, my wife is terrified of 'power anything'. I have forcred her to ride a motorcycle (went 30'). Has driven teh Sears Garden tractor for about five minutes in 23 years. Drove the kubota 5', raised and lowered the FEL a little.
But running power equipment, it does not matter the gender, all operators are equal perched on the seat. Just be careful. Take off the boots before coming in the house!

I’m sorry she’s terrified of ‘power’. Sounds more like my sister there! She was brave for that 30’ ride and the five minutes on a tractor.

Tractor Gal and Sharryn are two gals that have dived right in with fixing and using questions. Not much that is gender specific about using a tractor. The lack of hand and back strength that might be more common in women creeps up with age and arthritis on everyone. Workarounds are suggested by all. Many of them just require the right tools to get the job done. Pay real close attention to the safety hints offered on these pages. Tractors will kill you.

We all have in common liking to be outside, and enjoying learning new skills.

My better half comes from Kubota's motherland - does that count? She sat behind the wheel when the tractor was delivered, but as far as I know that was the only time. And the only picture I have of her on a tractor is while she's riding another well-known japanese brand, so I'll refrain from posting it here...

Check Facebook Marketplace for 275 gallon IBC totes and remove the liner then you have that basket. They sell pretty cheap in my area. Very handy for a lot of things.

…and we’re not advocating the safety of basket use. I have chains at each bottom edge back to the fork frame and ratchet strap at the top. Before doing this I spent some time practicing simultaneous dual function, curl or dump at same time as lifting or lowering. You have to work at keeping the basket floor level going up and coming down. I always lower when changing location. People die frequently falling from ladders so I’ll leave it to the debate community on the safety of baskets. If you google you can find man baskets made for this purpose.

Definitely get the forks though - most often “implement” you will use.
