Given the choice, I'd rather they shut down for 20 days and then be up and running smooth than staying open and having all kinds of problems.

You wouldn't say that if you had 100 head of cattle to feed AND the dealer HAS the part you NEED to fix your tractor so you can feed Bessie and her sisters......

That's why farmers of that size have more then one tractor!!! ;) No matter what they are doing there is always a plan B.

Yes, but sometimes plan B sucks. When I farmed full time, we always had a way to get stuff done 99% of the time. But, and a big But, there was a few specialized items that we only had 1 of and if they broke down, we needed immediate repair. The week between Christmas and New Year’s was always nerve wracking when something broke down because most of the big companies shutdown and inevitably, something would break and the dealer wouldn’t have that particular part. With 500 milk cows and another 550 young stock, things could get dicey fast.

Let’s just hope everything goes as planned, but I wouldn’t count on it. Allot depends on who they contract to do this. Hopefully they did a dry run on a small network to work out the bugs. Just hope dealers did stock up. When they do get back up, learning a new system is always challenging.

I guess I don't see the problem if the dealer HAS the part you NEED. The dealers will still be open.

It is 20 days, most dealers are ordering extra supplies. The shutdown is being done during the slowest parts time.
End of year Inventory…. makes for a GREAT TIME to get a BUNCH of stuff SOLD and OFF THE BOOKS.
….all we gotta do is… HAVE a REASON fo get everyone to ORDER PARTS EARLY!

If you read the operation of it, it's not the case, It's kind of the opposite.
They want dealers to over order and have plenty of stock on hand and they are offering incentives to do so.

I was suggesting that Kubota was emptying inventory…not dealers. Even dealers would not have to carry on inventory what has been ordered/purchased by customers.

I don't think this will be a problem for me, I never buy anything from Kubota.... Except the tractor.....
wow, I didn't know someone else made/sold ALL the parts needed for Kubota tractors ! Do you have their name, I'd like to see if their price/delivery is better.

They've already started locking out the ability to order any non-stock parts.

I have a feeling it's not them locking it out, they just ran out of inventory as EVERYONE is panic buying, and or why not buy if you don't have to pay for it for 6 months.

Is that a dealer order portal or just a part seller website?

It's the shop.kubotausa.com site with my local dealer selected. Anything that wasn't in stock was orderable up until a couple days ago. Now anything that isn't in their stock says "Currently unavailable" preventing me from ordering any of those parts.

It may not be unique to Kubota. I have a brand new pickup and cannot get an output shaft seal that is leaking (under warranty). They claim it’s backordered…but several dealers are apparently hoarding them because this output shaft leak is a common new-vehicle failure for some reason. 3 weeks it will sit in their yard instead of mine before they think they’ll have a seal.
I ordered one online and it will be at my house in two days….but that will not satisfy a warranty repair. Dealer claims the replacement part Must come via the warranty approval routes.

keeping parts in stock isn't a thing out here. They keep a few oil filters, oil, hydraulic fluid, air filters and fuel filters-and that's about it. When I was in this business, the last 2 1/2 years under new ownership, the new owners kept griping about how much money they spent on interest on inventory alone. It was in the millions of dollars-just in interest across all of their dealerships. In 2021 they sent back, and threw away, a LOT of inventory, reducing it back to blades, fluids, and filters-and not much more, thus reducing each dealers' inventory interest. Bad part is, a commercial or farm customer-who needs their stuff ASAP, can't get it that quickly if the part(s) have to be ordered in. But that chain of dealers is more about the sales dollar more than helping their parts and service customers so it doesn't really surprise me any.

Yes-threw away a lot of parts. Some of it was aged inventory that we (when I worked there) had in the 1990's, which is now NLA. I needed a part for my mom's G1800 and they had it when I left, I called back to get it a year or so later, it was gone-throwed away. I ended up finding it at another dealer (not part of that chain) up the road which was just as well. They offered me a job there too. Love the area, just not sure I want to get back into Kubota stuff, so I had to decline but left it "open" in case I need to do something different.

It's highly unlikely they'll shut down for 20 twenty days. Maybe 20 MINUTES, at most.
On so many levels this 'offline - no parts' for 20 days is rediculous.
I was at my dealer yesterday. They told me ordering is going to be down for the month of January. Anything not confirmed before the end of the month. Unbelievable.
