Hey guys has anyone ran a bush hog 406 cutter behind a mx 5100 kubota tractor. I think it is a bit heavy but was wondering if it would be fine on a 4wd tractor with loader? Or is the 1500 pound beast so heavy I would be endanger of tearing up the lift mechanism on 3 pt? Has anyone here tried a bush hog 406 on a kubota mx tractor and how did it do?

I use a Woods BB720X cutter with my L6060.

With rear chains the cutter weight about 1,100 Lbs., 100 Lbs. above the Kubota recommended weight limitation for a rotary cutter.

So far, I've replaced the structure that attaches the sway bars to the lift arms three times, left twice, right once. I now keep this part (same for L and R) on hand.

I've also broken the bolt that attaches the sway bars to the tractor at the front twice, L & R. I keep a new one in the tool box.

The 720X was purchased for a different MF tractor before buying the 6060 and once had front chains as well. I replaced the front chains with belting to lower the cutter weight and also to keep debris from the rear of the tractor.

I believe in the Kubota weight limitations printed in the Operator's Manuals.

I never mow with FELs attached for multiple reasons and need front weights in order to steer and for safety on hills.

I have a MX5100 and use a Kodiak 6’ bushhog that weighs 1200lbs. Also have a Atlas disc that weighs 1850lbs. I don’t have a ton of hours on it but it does fine.
I have loaded R1’s with a FEL for reference. Those weights are listed from the manuals I haven’t double checked myself.

You might check your owners manual. It contains capabilities/specifications for this type of thing. Good luck.
I bought the tractor second hand and I don't have the owners manual. I already bought the bush hog because I thought it would be a good one then I realized it might be too heavy.

The manual for the MX5100 used to be available online as a PDF but not anymore. The Australian manual for the MX5200 is available I looked yesterday, the limit for the rotary cutter is 450kg or 992lbs. They limit a disc harrow to 400kg or 881lbs, I’m over that limit by 1000lbs but it was too good of a deal to pass up, and it lifts it at idle and has the power/traction to pull it faster then needed.

I believe they are extremely conservative as the size and weight restriction seem low for a 50hp tractor. Watch for the safety police to come by shortly to tell you if you exceed the limits in the manual your tractor will break in half.

Not long ago I didn't pay much attention to the "rules" so to speak on these type of things but as I have gotten older and the toys more expensive and my mortality more in focus I find myself more and more mindful of what can go wrong. A bad accident/outcome can now potentially affect the household dynamics meaningfully. Tractors can be very dangerous. Be careful, if not for yourself but for the others that may be counting on you.

A couple of years ago I sold my Woods BB840X 7' cutter, which weighs nearly 1,500 Lbs. with F & R chains.

I used this for a time with my M9960 but would never have considered using it with my L6060.

The first "buyer" wanted it badly at asking price but wanted to use it with a JD compact HST of size similar to my L6060. I talked him out of it.

Later sold it to another buyer with a more suitable tractor.
