Thanks for the update it means a lot to know the final chapter.
Recently a guy with a small B series was trying to find a leaf vac and not having any success through his dealer.

I'm far from an expert, just glad I got it working. I think I'll buy one of those reflective tachometer things to see how fast the thing is running.

Everything is relative, think of how much more knowledge you have now compared to when you were trying to seal up small gaps in the mower deck to suction collector. Know you know fan rpm is the thing to take care of as the rest is just trivial and insignificant.

Others will start from the same starting point as you did and you can quickly convince them where to focus their energies.

Having the tach is good idea and will have many uses.

Studies done on factory tractor rpm meters following major ice storms where pto generators were being used, showed that a high percentage were seriously inaccurate and, for a pto generator, having the correct rpm to produce 60 cycle power is critical.
