Just as it says in the subject, I am now the proud owner of a pinch under 500 hour L2501 with a FEL. It's got other features like a pin on bucket that has been booger welded with random 3/8 stock and a front grille that looks like it met Chuck Norris, purchased sight unseen at an auction.

I'm a regular buyer of used motor equipment so the used part doesn't bother me, but I do need some input as to initial repairs. Here's what's planned.

-Oil filter and new oil.
-fuel filter
-Replace grille so I can get lights back on.
-Replace hood strut which is missing.
-Cut the bucket lip and weld in 1/4" flat stock.
-Check levels everywhere else.

Questions are.
-Does the factory pin on bucket have a thicker welded on cutting edge or is the 1/4" sheet stock what you get for a lip from the factory? Intent was to get some 1/2" flat stock later and drill and bolt it on.
-What is the thread size for the factory oil drain plug so I can make sure I have the correct crush washer or opt for a quick drain valve.
-What other NECESSARY things would you do immediately?

Thanks.

Nah. Get a Piranha bar instead. Much mo' bettah than a flat edge if you need to do any digging. Night and day difference.

If you are just moving light stuff, the factory edge is fine. The bonus about the Piranha bar is that it attaches with just two bolts, so it comes off if you need that straight edge. I just had mine on and then back off yesterday. Then back on! No big deal.

Piranha bar. 1/2" thick, made in America.

Grease it!

Can you get the model number off your bucket? Some have a cutting edge that can be cut off and replaced. And some of those have holes for a bolt-on, replaceable cutting edge.

Update.
-Tracked down the manufacturing date to 2019 so tractor has a powertrain warranty through 2025. So that's a win.

-Changed the oil. Changed the oil and diesel filters.
-Waiting on the air filter and the hydraulic oil to do the filter change and make-up for any fluids lost. Checked the hydraulics level through the sight glass and saw good level so used the tractor to load and place 3 yards of stone and pack to regrade the driveway.

Back to the bucket, sitting on the phone with a rep now to buy an L2216 quick coupler plate and switch to a skid steer style bucket. Figured less work and ultimately something I was going to do anyways so...

I don't know about 2019 but on the L2501 I just bought it has a 2 year bumper to bumper warranty and a 6 year power train warranty.

I'm still trying figure out where the front + rear bumpers are.........:)

LOL. That is pretty great! I’m impressed to say the least. Would never have guessed…
