Well, tomorrow I'm off to jury duty. Again. Since 1973, (high school) this is my 32nd summons.
I have served on 4 trials, not including a 3 month long stint as the foreman of a county grand jury. I have also been seated on at least a half dozen more, but they were settled or plea bargained before the trial started.

What I don't understand is that I can name at least a half dozen people who have never been summoned, and have lived here longer than I have. And maybe another 20 or 30 who have only been summoned once or twice.

Seems odd.

Now you see what all that clean living will do for ya, lol. My wife has been called three time now but was lucky enough not to have to go to trial.

area you are in & amount of people eligible has a lot to do with it.

another one of the "perks" of being a registered & active voter.

it also says you are a fair & open minded person because you continue to make it out of the jury pool.

last time i was interviewed to be a juror they gave me the "can you be fair & impartial" question & i said absolutely not.

as ive got older my fair, impartial & everyone deserves a chance button doesnt work so good....

my name doesnt cycle thru the pool anymore.

I know exactly what you mean, and I,m getting the same way.

It,s also getting harder and harder to tolerate " stupid " , which I seem to notice more and more.

Only once ever for me and I turn 48 next week.

Since I am a volunteer fireman, I am excluded. My civic duty is being fulfilled according to the lady I spoke to at the court house years ago.

Your duty as an American citizen is to serve as a jurist when necessary...

Seems to me that you name keeps bubbling to the top of the hat...

Never been called myself, neither has my wife.

I've been summoned 4 times and served once, I'm 39. Like you I've also wondered at that a bit, I only know a few other people in my county that have been summoned. I always thought the selection was random but maybe there is some algorithm that looks at voting history and things like that.

Flip, you say, "Your duty as an American....." It should read, "Our duty as Americans...."

Much less condescending.

Since I am retired military, I have never and will never be called to be a jurist.

They say that we are to rigged and will normally take over a jury and get them to vote they way we want.

Now my wife has been called and served a few times.

In our previous locations, 20 years total, I never got called, wife only got called once. In 20 years at this location I have been called one time and actually served on a jury that time. My wife gets called every other year it seems.

Jury trials are less common here in Canada. Being an army reservist and a peace officer, I don't get called up, but my wife has been twice, but she then gets excluded as a healthcare employee.

I suppose I could serve on a civil jury, but lawyers know soldiers and cops tend to not like lawyers any more than criminals I guess.

I swear somehow I got "lost" when I moved ten years ago. I have not been contacted or served on a jury in over a decade while I know others who get pulled in on a constant basis yearly. I have no desire to look into or "correct" this problem but find it so odd.

When my wife was in nursing school, she was called every year but managed to weasel out of it, and I keep getting called but they ask if you've ever been a plaintiff or defendant in a trial and I was a defendant on a unlawful dismissal suit. Always gets me off. Like you, I just got mine again, they want me Feb. 26th.

Here they pay about $17/day per diem to serve as a juror. Depending on your employer, you may get paid your regular wage by your employer.

This fall I was summoned for an estimated 3 week murder trial. No way that could work with my work duties.

Had been 6 years since last summons, which settled pre-trial.

Fortunately, I deal with the Sheriff , and both the District Attorney and Public Defender through the county I work for. Was granted a free pass since I knew the attorneys, and the Sheriff Deputies that would testify...another 6 years before next summons...

I got called for one years ago when I was in my late teens. But I was scheduled to start a new job in a different state at the same time. Was able to get it excused.

Since then, I've never been called.

I have been summoned several times, as has my wife. We have never made it out of Voir dire. I cannot recall a single time that I have been asked about military service though. It was always the questions about police in the family that got us out of service. We have three retired Chiefs of Police ans several serving cops in our family.

I don't think that military service gets anyone out of serving in my county because I know a retired couple that both served on a jury. Besides, if they excused people in my county for being military, they would have to excuse half the county residents. Almost every one of my local friends are military retired, active duty, reserve, or are veterans.

Well, I wasn't seated on a jury. As it turns out, they apparently wanted jurors with little or no experience, and young women. (defendant was a young girl)
As Arizona's most experienced jurist, I wasn't desirable. Out of a pool of 120, they picked eleven, two men, nine women, most with no experience. Trial was scheduled to start today, 11-28, and run until 12-23. Thankful I wasn't chosen, especially this time of year. Left the house at 6:20am, returned at 5:55pm.
Long day.
