Is a 900# grapple too much for a M7060 & LA1154

I'm looking to get a SGC1560 grapple for my 7060 and before I jump on it I want some opinions on mass. The 1560 is 800# but the dealer has a 72" one in stock which I think would work fine except it is 100# heavier. Is that too much mass in the front? R1 tires are ballasted but when I was moving heavy junk with the forks I felt that back end moving once. It felt much better with the cutter back there but maneuvering suffered.

Looking at the capacity curves in the manual it should still be able to easily lift another 1000# to max ht (3M) if I dared to do that and around 2000# off the ground. I'm not so worried about lift as I am about stability.

You'll definitely need ballast on the 3ph, regardless of which grapple you get.

Sadly, EA grapples are no longer available.
IMHO, either 800 lbs. or 900 lbs. is UNNECESSARILY heavy for most any tractor.
Great for a CTL though!

I came very close to ordering one last Nov and would be in the 'up the creek' bin if the wait time and 'is it the right one' hadn't scared me. Then I've held off. Dealer has one of a style I like (without using a grapple). I still have the 'is it the right one' fears of course.

Is this going to be difficult to use compared to lighter ones with fewer tines? I like that when this one closes it'll grip well. (Barring multiple irregular in-compressible items)

Plus one on stability.

I did the same arithmetic on my L3901 with LA525 loader and decided to buy a 500# grapple. I dont have issues with a couple hundred pounds or so of lost lift capacity but the grapple adds noticeably to the front overhanging load and I do worry about stability. The vast majority of my operation is on "less than level" ground and the pucker factor with grapple is definitly more than with bucket. Full height lift with my grapple is on my list of "dont go there" places.

Care to share what model grapple you are considering?

wow, I had to see a picture to understand WHY the HUGE weight. 800# is about the weight of a 4by8 sheet of 1/2 steel plate.
Looking at the picture you should be able to eliminate HALF of the tines for typical grappling duties like log or brush hauling. Does anyone know why so many tines ?

I like how solidly it closes. looks like it'll grip very well.

There is an old 3pt carry platform with rotted lumber in the woods. I'm going to look at resurrecting that as a rear ballast.
That grapple does not extend forward nearly as much as my root grapple so that should help some. I wish I had opted for a similar design

Landpride says its matched to M series machines so....

I have a landpride sgs1578 on my cab 7060 and love it at 762lbs. If I had to do over, I would get the sgs 1566 @ 680lbs and 1 ft narrower. The narrow part is why I would get the 1566. My tractor handles the 1578 with 12 ft 10 -12 inch rnd logs with no problem. I do have cast centers and loaded tires and a ballast bx with concreate in it and 4 bags of 80lb concreate that I let get wet and dry, then strapped on top of ballast bx. No tippy plus, safe for the front axle which, is REALLY important when wrkn with the grapple! Can really pick up alot of different style material with this grapple!

That's way too heavy and a waste in terms of lift capacity and cost. Steel is expensive, so you're paying for weight that has no functional benefit. I bought an Everything Attachments Wicked 60 a few years ago and it's 400lb. I do wish that I'd bought a Wicked 66 which is 600lb but it's not a big deal at this point. The 66 is obviously a little wider, and the jaws open a little more, but both are incremental improvements on an already great grapple.

There are lots of other lighter options out there, and although I'm a Land Pride fan boy, I would suggest that you pass on the Land Pride model.

In the photo below, I had no problem picking up and moving 12ft sections of a large fir tree that got uprooted. I had 144 gallons of beet juice in the tires but no wheel weights and there was nothing "tippy" about the tractor with no weight on the 3-point. I eventually added wheels weights in addition to the beet juice for added traction and stability with no issues or complaints.

I’ve never operated the M7060, but when my wife retired I expect her to buy me one😉. That being said just the basic math in my mind suggests a 900lb grapple is going to eat up a lot of the lift capacity…maybe the M is more stable than what I am used to (MX and B) as it’s a bit heavier…that’s a real utility machine. But as far as lift goes you are sort of neutering what you can lift beyond the implement IMO…I don’t mean to be rude but 900 lbs is going to gobble up some lift capability.

I bought an EA (just in the nick of time) for just that reason for my MX….otherwise I may have ended up with MTL(they do have a variety and some lighter weight versions). I think the M weighs more but doesn’t really lift too much more than an MX. M should be much more stable though.

Now that I think about it, I wonder is EA considered vintage or limited? 🤔 Wise cracks aside Id be thinking about a lighter grapple. If you plan to share with a CTL/CWL or just want the heft the way you play in the dirt, maybe the heavier grapple makes sense? Either way I think PoTreeBoy hit the nail on the head. Good luck and share some pics what you get. 🥃

Don't forget that the M7060/6060 has a "height hole" and a "power hole" with the LA1154 loader.

LA1065
Max lift height (bucket pin) > 111.2"
Max weight at max lift height (bucket pin) > 2,275 lb.

LA1154
Max lift height "height hole" (bucket pin) > 132.7"
Max weight at max lift height "height hole" (bucket pin) > 2,469 lb

Max lift height "power hole" (bucket pin) > 117.2"
Max weight at max lift height "power hole" (bucket pin) > 2,928 lb

So the LA1154 set on the "power hole" lifts 653 lb more and 6" higher than the LA1065. Even on the "height hole" the M will lift almost 200 lb more and almost 2ft higher. The M7060/6060 is way more tractor. :)

Not at all. Get the 72"

I'm less and less of a Land Pride man.
For front end attachments Idigtexas and for rear implements Armstrong Ag.

I have the 72in LP root grapple, with added protection plate, I have run it on the mx52 all day long, all tires are filled at 80% with a water based puncture sealant. And most importantly have the cutter on the 3pt or something heavier.

Steel quality is important. The teeth are AR400 on my LP.

I ran that same LP root grapple in front of a Cat299D3 for 200+ hours, zero issues.

If I was going to buy another grapple, I would check out Idigtexas, American Made, Free shipping.

If you got tons of front forward work, skidsteer all day long!! Even if you got to rent one. I owned a M7060 it will have zero issues with that grapple weight plus ~ 1200lbs with all tbe right ballast, tires and rear attachment. The challenges with the M7060 is visibility over the hood, make sure the load is secured, heavy shakin of the FEL before rolling and not running over debris. **The M7060 has cheap and inferior protection for the underbelly hydraulics, lines and fuel tank.

Good point…I did not even think of that…Well crap. Now I am not even sure if can wait till spousal unit retires and buys me one or maybe I need it sooner 🤭.

Look At a stinger 66” a lot lighter…..I am in the if it has a loader it has to have 3 pt ballast camp….my tractor also has rimguard and rear tires in wide setting

It really depends on how the OP is going to use the grapple and what type of grapple. If your grubbing brush, ripping up small stumps and small trees out, a lighter weight grapple will bend and not hold up.

If I had used a lighter, less quality made grapple, it probably would be scrap metal.

If your moving brush piles and picking up logs etc, I could see using a lighter version, he has the right machine, no reason to even consider a light version.... that 70hp tractor, it will handle a 1k lb grapple no problem and still have 12 to 1500lbs + of lift easy. I moved totes and pallets weighing nearly 3k with the M7060 I had.

The 72" 900lb + is currently on my mx52, been moving heavy brush/tree cuttings off fence lines lately. If I'm clearing land, extended hoses get added onto the SVL and makes it easy peasy.

Dealer called back and said they could get the 60" I wanted so getting it. I'll post pics ripping brush away from fencelines when it arrives.

I would strongly suggest get the 72in...... get something that is wide enough where you can see the outer edge grapple sir, you have a big tractor.
