Idling, going to be picking up rocks off the property where it might sit for 5 minutes, at what point is it better for my Teir 4 tractor to just shut down and restart?

Most diesels will run without a battery but will not start without one. I shut mine down to do some work. When I went to restart the tractor was dead. The battery ground cable finally broke from unseen corrosion. Long walk back to get new cable and repair.
I have never had an issue letting idle for long periods ever since.
The price of fuel may the bigger issue right now.

The general consensus on this and other forums is minimum 1850 rpm, maximum wot for best overall DPF health. I run mine wherever I want and it regens whenever it wants.
Carbon build up and/or wet stacking can occur if a diesel is idling for too long. Diesels are built for operating under load and if that does not happen often enough then the aforementioned can happen.
Not necessarily saying it happens in 5 minutes but over time it will. Depends on what you are doing after the 5 minutes. Are ploughing or are you just running light load and dumping the rocks you just gathered?

Yes, it is a regen engine, and yes, I just go and dump the rocks, I will just shut her down, it won't be long between regens if I leave her idling. Thanks guys.
If I have a project that requires a lot of in and out of the cab I will just leave the engine @ 2000ish rpm's. Same when I'm using the winch. With the older non tier4 I would leave the engine @ 1500rpm's. I never left any tractor at dead idle for long periods.
The newer tier IV engines are easier to start, less drain on battery, and yes idling will cause frequent regens. If you are off the tractor for more than 3 or 4 minutes, shut it off.

If you can afford it, buy a 'rock rake' or make one ! Maybe rent a 'rock picker' ?
5 mins….?? Let ‘er idle. More than 10 mins..?? Shut ‘er down. (but I have the luxury of a non-emissions pre-Tier engine.)
Shut it off, as the DPF needs to be hot to operate properly. I have researched this issue a lot before buying my LX2610 as I wanted a little more horsepower, but this will be my last tractor(maybe) and did not want this emission issues down the road. Researched this and even my brother bought a L3240 pre emission. Looked at a few B3350's knowing the emission issues(delete kit would have been installed).
