I don't understand the hate with the "treadle" pedal.

I have a B2601... I didn't see a zerk under the treadle peddle. Are we just shooting some grease in the pivot area of the pedal? Mine definitely takes a stomping to get full speed reverse.

I'm a 6'3" 230lbs, I do feel a little awkward, only when pressing down for reverse, maybe the toe under the front pedal will work better for me, that is after a good greasin.

the 2501 is a lot more tractor than the 2620 so you did good!
I bought a new Honda Rubicon same week I bought the Tractor. It pretty much sits unused in the shop and has a 90 miles on it in in 14 months now. I take the tractor instead of it. Lol

I miss my Honda quad. It was fun to drive around the property quickly, I even made trails with what little wooded area I have, I still maintain the trails for walking.

The reasons why I wanted the LX tractor was the weight. Still had enough power to pick up logs and heavy stuff I want but without making ruts on the lawn. However the L2501 isn't doing much damaged as I originally thought. But I kinda figured any tractor I get, even a B2601 or heck a BX is gonna be heavier than my side by side and all of them is going to cause some sort of turf damage. The side by side did too sometimes. I'll just have to be more careful in the spring and after heavy rainfall.

I don't have a professionally manicured exquisite lawn.

It's a compromise...I wanted a tractor that could move some heavy stuff and and do some large landscaping projects. The BX series was just too small, not that they can't do some of these things but I know I'd max it out frequently where as on the LX or L series they wouldn't break a sweat doing.

I watched this guy on YouTube lifting heavy things with the BX, while I'm impressed...the tractor's rear end is off the ground even with ballast, the front tires are so flat it might as well be on the rim. I just keep thinking...man that cannot be good for those front axles lol.

I know what you mean…the neighbors haven’t called protective service on me yet, but when ever mine is being a big meanie, I go ahead and put it in a throttle lock hold and go about my business.

Honestly, mine is so mean I don’t even apologize when I step on it.

I think the early design gave it a bad rap. If I remember you had to rest your foot on the early pedal.

The newer design lets me still rest my foot on the floor. I haven't had any trouble going back snd forth with my JD.

Getting in my backhoe with shuttle shift takes me a minute to adjust.

The earlier K designs is the reason I never bought a mechanical HST SCUT/CUT. The K GST tranny was an even worse demo experience IMHO. Tried a demo at the dealership and the unit stopped moving...had to leave it in the middle of nowhere because the sales guy couldn't get it going and they had to tow it.

There is no grease fitting for the pedal on a B2601.

I drilled a small hole in the tube and use a needle point nozzle to pump grease in. I have a hose clamp to cover the hole when greasing is complete.

I looked hard at the time for a 2501 because I wanted to turbo it. But I got impatient looking for one and bought the 02. They’re both excellent tractors!

You’ll be able to Turbo the L2502 soon…but, I think we’re gonna do the CK2610/2620 first. I’m looking at getting one of those tractors in the coming months.

I liked the pedal on the in-laws BX however when I got my B2601 it was a different matter. It was way to stiff and then I found the thread here that showed which spring to remove and then all was right in the world again.

Your 2501 has the R4 tires IIRC? The R14’s seem to be more forgiving on grass IMO.

Yeah mine has R4. I'd think the R14 would cause more turf damage esp when turning sharply but these R4 hasn't caused any damage surprisingly but they are a tough tire too...6ply I think? Hasent been an issue for me anyways. My side by side tore up the grass all the time no matter what, even when I had the dif unlocked or "turf" mode. Still tore it up but the tractor hasn't at all. But it definitely sinks in a little more

the JD has R1 and the Kubota has R14. The R1’s are hard on grass and the R14’s haven’t been too bad unless making super tight turns. Not that I really care about the grass because Im not a yard snob lol. It’s been years since I have operated anything with R4 tires so I can’t remember what they were like. And they were on a full size backhoe.

and I agree about the ATV’s being harder on the grass. If I have the diff locked in on the Rubicon, it’s really bad. But that’s only when im pulling a trailer full of wood out of the woods as I need all the traction for that heavy load. . But I have twin teen boys who ride their ATV’s in the yard constantly. I also have labs that hunt moles relentlessly.

I'm not sure it's "hate" ... But, just 'different" than most others ... I like my dual side by side pedals on my Massey Ferguson. (As that's what I'm use to, don't like change!)

Back in the beginning of 2022 I started my search for a tractor, was looking for a big CUT or small Utility ... With a backhoe ... Nothing to be found in my area ... Ended up being a choice between the little BX23 and the Massey Ferguson I ended up buying, while I had never used a treadle pedal, it didn't seem like it would fit me, but lots of people used and liked them, including my uncle, brother, and nephew, who all owned different ones, so I didn't rule them out ... My local dealer was "difficult" to deal with, an hour away, the MF dealer was friendly, helpful and 6 miles away, and the MF had much more capabilities, so I bought it ...

I never thought I'd like the hydrostatic transmission, but in the last less than three years I've grown to love it over the 565 hours I've put on it!

My next tractor though will be a gear drive transmission Utility Tractor, while keeping my Little Baby Overgrown Lawnmower TLB!

ETA - I can't recall once hitting the wrong pedal, forgetting to take it out of neutral and selecting a range, yes! Nor have I ever confused the three pedals on the truck ...

B2601 does not have a grease zerk on the pedal shaft there are Youtube videos showing how to install one though

I don't remember what the pedals looked like on my B7500 or L3200, but the L4240 pedal looks like the rubber overmolded version of the one in Post #22. It feels fine to me and the F/R is as easy as sliding my right foot fore and aft.

I don't remember having any issues with the B7500 or L3200 either, but do think there was something a little different with them. I do have a clear recollection of absolutely hating the pedal on a BX-sized tractor when first shopping for a newer tractor around 2002. That was a major factor in going with the B series.

Side note - A number of times I've commented that one should buy his 5th tractor first. That isn't a joke or smarty comment. In '02 I was already in the market for the third tractor and now have #5. The arms race is over. Happy now.

I agree with you 100%. That xx40 series tractor is everything I wanted in a tractor. I have no complaints and only thing I've added is mirrors magnetically attached to the loader towers and a setup so I can add a camera anytime I need one (like with tree shear).

I went from a JD 1025R to a B2601. For me, the 2 pedal set up is easier but the treadle pedal isn't bad.

The B2601 reverse is harder than it needs to be. Shortly after buying it, my right acheilia's tendon started hurting.
Removing one of the springs fixed that.
