I don't understand the hate with the "treadle" pedal.

After using the tractor for several hours now, I don't understand why Kubota gets hate for their pedal design. I know the green folks love to rag on about Kubotas and their pedal system but I encountered something interesting.

It's simple. Its safety.

Having the forward and reverse separated like this prevents the possibility of accidentally hitting the wrong one. If they are side by side, I feel like I'd have a higher chance, especially wearing oversized winter boots of hitting the forward or reverse if I'm up against say a building or a drop off and the way the "treadle" pedal is designed pretty much prevents this and I love that its a wider pedal, feels more comfortable. So I actually really like Kubota's design and it feels completely natural to me.

What do you all think about it? I really feel like it doesn't deserve the hate at all.

I operate both a Kubota and a JD 3520 so I use both designs. I have no issues with the treadle pedal on my Kubota and like it just fine. I do like the dual pedals of the JD better.

Being that my B2650 was my first tractor , I didn’t have any preconceived opinions of what was good or bad about the treadle pedal. I just did what was necessary to make my tractor go forward or reverse. As far as safety, again, I think it is more a muscle memory thing. after doing the same movement over and over, you just know what , where, and when to do it.

I switched from a JD to Kubota several years ago. It took me about 30 minutes to acclimate to the treadle pedal. Wouldn't go back now.

First off, here in the south, our older hands prefer to call it a "treble" pedal.

Secondly, you aint stood up to adjust your pants, stepping on the reverse and about slingin yourself onto the hood yet lol.

I do like the design though. Very convenient when cutting and having to back up constantly. You do need to keep it greased though on the standard L's. Otherwise you'll get unwanted cruise control.

My youngin crept through one of our gates last year on our 3301 from a sticky pedal....couple of grease points underneath her takes care of that.

My grand L has a better version of this pedal and won't stick.....or at least hasn't yet.

As best I can recall from similar threads, the only folks that seem to have a real problem are tall people with little tractors; say 6’6” men with a BX. Maybe the people that REALLY hate it don’t buy Kubota.

I liked it on my L4701 (yes, I have stood up many times without going on an impromptu wild ride). I like it on my T. Don’t think there’s anything physically smaller than my T unless you switch brands from Kubota to Power Wheels. But I’m only 6’0” so maybe taller people don’t fit as well in the operator station.

I seen this complaint on youtube before haha. Complained that the operator station is too small on the BX tractors but they failed to mention they are almost 7ft tall!

I have no issues with the pedal. Convenient and I don't even think about it when doing a lot of loader/grapple work.

I have a mx5400 my first tractor. At first, it was awkward for me. The more I ran it the more I liked it. When I go in reverse I just slip my foot under the forward part of the pedal and lift. I rarely use the back part of the pedal.
Now I don't even think about it.
Muscle memory.

I think the early design gave it a bad rap. If I remember you had to rest your foot on the early pedal.

The newer design lets me still rest my foot on the floor. I haven't had any trouble going back snd forth with my JD.

Getting in my backhoe with shuttle shift takes me a minute to adjust.

You have to realize OTT is a forum that functions like Facebook for tractor owners, or hopeful tractor owner, specializing in Kubota brand.

Some people comment because they have a personal experience that forms their opinion and may have value to the reader.

Some post comments because they do it all the time as a pastime, and may not even understand the question.

Some ask questions for the same reason, answer doesn't matter but it's a conversation starter.

Only people with too much time on their hands respond to threads like this, like me I'm bored today!

I hated the one on my BX, especially blowing snow with my 3 point blower. After switching to 2 pedals, I would never go back. So comfortable to use and smoother control with the longer throw on individual pedals. Like driving a car where you push forward on the pedal no mater which direction your headed. More flat foot room also for comfort.

Exactly! I rarely use my heel for reverse and only when I want to go "fast". 99% of the time I raise the pedal with the top of my toes to back up. It couldn't be any easier.

Do you still have the BX2360 listed in your profile? I can't remember the pedal arrangement on the BX25D that I had.

I'm 6' 3 and older as well, I just can't lift my leg as easy as before, I did place a cusion on the seat to raise my seat height, that helped alot, I would still prefer two pedals though. At the time I purchased the tractor, I couldn't see spending thousands ( I have the LX2610) more on a larger tractor than what I needed just because it had a larger operator compartment.

I have owned tractors with both systems, I don't mind the treadle pedal at all. Looked at a John Deere 3025e once and all the salesman could talk about was the two pedals, I said well at least it has something going for it!

I liked the pedal on the in-laws BX however when I got my B2601 it was a different matter. It was way to stiff and then I found the thread here that showed which spring to remove and then all was right in the world again.

I hate the treadle pedal on my B2910, because it keeps reminding me how much I dislike the split brakes right in front of it...

I feel like a contortionist every time I want to use the split brakes, which fortunately is not often...

Fortunately, I rather quickly got over trying to back up my van by pushing down on the floor with my heel...
