Why would you wish to use something different than Kubota S-UDT2? Cost?

3.2 Gallons will cost you about 100 bucks - now you might find something cheaper that SAYS it is Kubota S-UDT2 compatible ......... but just because it say it, does not make it so......

And another product that may meet those specs - will be 20-25 bucks a gallon, thus you might save enough to buy lunch. But is that money really worth it in the long run?

In Canada Kubota and their dealers do not sell UDT nor S-UDT2 at all even though I would bet the tractors they sell in ND are same.

The Dealers sell Kubota branded Premium UDT in Kubota Orange Pails and Barrels (made by Petro Can) and on the pails it reads:
- "....specialized, synthetic-blend hydraulic/transmission fluid formulated for extreme cold weather and high-load performance".
and
- "..... Specially formulated for transmissions with wet brakes as well as power steering."

Petro Can. says its the same as their DuraTran. In the US I have read Valvoline makes a lot of the Orange Pailed hydro fluids.

The Kubota also prints on the back of their Premium Transmission oil pail:

Kubota recommends:
Premium udt
Sudt2
JD JDM J20D
Case MS 1207 / 1209 / 1210
FNHA 2C 200.00
CNH MAT 3505

So our manuals say one thing, what they stamp on their pails/barrels say another but matches what the dealers / corporate supply is another.

edit: I use the Premium UDT I get from my dealer. Price seems competitive.

The principal difference in UDT and SUDT2 is viscosity

UDT =: John Deere Hygard (J20C) = Duratran
(VI = 140, KV100 = 9.5 cSt)

SUDT2 = John Deere Hygard Low-vis (J20D) = Duratran XL
(VI =200, KV100 = 8.2 cSt)

There are a gadzillion J20C formuIations on the market. J20D products are less common but increasing.

Kubota USA says SUDT2 is "preferred" and UDT is "also acceptable" which should tell you something.

way to complicated and outside my pay grade that for sure. (haha)
I guess probably one of the reasons I see so many orange pails around our place. Our dealer has always been straight and fair with us and we trust them and in return support them.
Personally I learned long ago not to argue with the experts. They treat me well and steer me straight and in return I keep going back year after year. A win / win for both of us I guess.

Cheers!

Not complicated at all. SUDT2 is a slightly lower viscosity and better cold weather oil than UDT. Just that simple.

The MSDS for Canadian "Premium UDT" shows it is made by Shell Canada Products in Alberta. The material description indicates it is made of "highly refined mineral oils".

Duratran is good stuff, probably at least as good or better. But it's not the same.

It's a scam. Stop doing oil and filter changes. Stick it to the man.
What's always humoured me is that 99.44% of all 'riding mowers' with HST never have their HST oil changed form day one until they finally are scrapped 30-40 years later, those with filters seldom have those changed either.
I know many will argue 'not the same', tractors are worked harder, but there's a lot of 'grass cutters' that get 1,000s of hours of use and abuse. My Cub Cadet( 30+ years) mowed down 1/8th acre of tall rye one summer, it's still going strong.

I own 2 gen5 4runnrer's my old one a 2013, at 46,000 miles I dropped the pan drained and then flushed the transmission fluid (13 quarts).

Last week at 180,000 miles I decided to do it again, the fluid was not
burnt and the 4 magnets at the bottom of the pan had just a minuscule
amount of metal on them.

So would I have been better never replacing the fluid?
There is no proof that my labor increased the life of this transmission but
I do it anyway to all my cars.

Where did you find this gem of statistical "data"? 😂
