How do I change the oil pan on a L3400?

I ran over a rock today and punctured the oil pan. I was thinking about replacing it myself until I looked under the tractor. It looks like I have to remove lots of things before getting to the oil pan. Is this something that I should do, or is it best left to the dealer's mechanic?

It's not that bad to do yourself. Support the tractor from the front end and then drop the front axle --- one pivot pin. Slide the front axle out and then drop the oil pan. Fairly straight forward job.

P.S. Remove the front wheels first of course --------

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the schematic and under the tractor. It looks like I need to remove the propeller shaft. Is this what you are talking about when you mention the front axle? It looks like I can remove a roll pin on the front of the propeller shaft to get it out of the way???

That's correct --- remove three bolts and separate the guard over the u-joint -- just push it back toward the rear, then knock out that pin to separate the propeller shaft. I think you'll still have to drop the front end out of the way to be able to get that oil pan down out of there -- maybe not. I had to on mine --- just knock out the steering rod and then roll a jack under there to support the front differential. Remove a nut on the pin that holds the front end on there and then knock out that pin --- comes out easy. Drop the differential with the entire front end down and roll it out of the way. You shouuld be good to go.
