The Caroni quills have 4 bolts and mount to the flat part of the deck. Below is a picture of the bottom side of the 91" Caroni I restored earlier this Summer.

On that link you posted, is the top side shown where the blade goes?

Guess who sells all the Caroni parts? ASC. Agri-Supply and they have an online website.

That picture is right side up. The blade goes on the bottom and a sheave on the smooth top part. There is a key for the sheave that must be on the back side as shown.

Wow, that is a GREAT IDEA! I guess that would mean I'd have to get a drill press :)
Lathe. Drill press is not accurate enough.

If you were closer, I'd do it for you. But shipping would be a killer.

Thanks for the offer. I will post back what I hear from the shop. While this wasn't the simplest engineering, it is more complicated than drilling 2 holes and buying the caroni pulley and quill. Decisions await.

OK, from looking at the latest pictures (4 of 5 is best..), I'd get a machine shop to

0) remove the old bearing inner race
1) cutoff the damaged threaded section
2) drill into the spindle ,say 1-1.25"
3) tap the hole
4) lightly 'cleanup' the entire shaft. Leave new bearings there ,so they can fit properly.

I'd think $100 would be a fair price for the labour and time.
The bolt only has to hold the pulley on, no real stress, that's what the Woodruff key is for. When assembling, coat bolt well with neverseize, install, remove, dab a little more NS, then final install.

Jay, FYI, the threaded end is where the blade goes on. I don’t know if that changes anything with regards to drilling and tapping? I’m not an expert in this area.

won't matter , as the stress is on the Woodruff key NOT the nut. The nut( or bolt head) is just there to keep the blade( or pulley) on the shaft.

when assembling, use lots of neverseize on the pulley and blade adapter too ! put on NS, assemble, remove , brush a bit more on, the reassemble for good.

just an update. I emailed 4 shops, 3 replied back. One quoted $400 to make a new one! Ouch. Another asked to bring it for an inspection as he though he could fix it. Well, he has looked at it and is going to 1) try to fix it, price is about 35-40, or 2) make a new one at $100. I said to do both so I have a spare, so worst case, he makes 2 of them. I am really pleased with this and should get them back early next week.

That is ridiculous, even in Canadian dollars. 2-300 would be a rate around here. Keep shopping Jay.

A ridiculously high price usually means they do not want to mess with it but they are willing to screw over someone if they are crazy enough to pay a stupid price.

Go buy a compressor and a soda or sand blaster for that price and do it yourself! ;)

sand blastin... BTDT..still have 2 compressors and pot, jes waaay tooo messy, local guv has shut down most places.
good thing is the spreader is all flat surfaces ,so RA sander and several discs. I'd rather pay 200 than spend the day doing it..rather have more quality time on the BX23S !

That was the shop I wanted to send you to, I still can't remember the name ;-))

GOOD OPTION!
