Help!
I Need to Drill out a roll Pin.
That has a broken punch in the middle of it.
From both sides
That is now all beat to hell.
That looks like it is welded in place
That still wont come out.

Any suggestions for a drill bit?

Sorry I don't have a quick easy fix for you. Is it on something that can be be removed so a press can be used? Pictures of what your working on would help.

Problem is the roll pin is hardened, the punch you used may or may not be. Not an easy situation. Like thebicman said, if it can be pressed out would be best.

Can you take a picture of what you are trying to punch out? You may be able to use a C clamp and large socket to press it out if you do not have a hand press.

Sounds like a situation that heat might be your savior. Hopefully in a spot where you can heat it without damaging something.

Can't really see much but this is looking from the top down. you're looking through a bar welded onto excavator tooth. there's a hole for access 20181209_121908.jpg

Only way that I know to remove it is drill it with a die reclaim drill also known as a Hi-Rock drill. They are solid tungsten carbide and can drill glass as well. Used in my industry for drilling out hardened tooling that has broken off in a hole. If you go that route, use only water as a lubricant to lubricate and cool the drill tip. They aren't cheap either.

Any more pics? Maybe farther out too to see what your dealing with. Trying to drill anything hardened isn’t much fun,and punches don’t drill easy either. My guess would be heat and another punch.

Be care full with carbide, it chips and is brittle. I have had better luck with cobalt, it is not quite so prone to snapping and is still hard enough to drill hardened steel.

Sorry, I don't have any other pics (Excavator is at my farm). I am wondering if I can put this on press and ram it through?

Maybe? Lol. More pics of the whole thing might get more ideas. I’m no metallurgist or machinist by far. I did grow up and start working in the rust belt and dealt with a lot of broke off stuff, I’m sure many others here have too.

You could use a fine tip plasma torch to blow it out. ;)
