New member/thank you to all the people who take time to help others along the way – thank you.

I owned a B6000 for twelve years and hung a B2551 off of the back of that poor beast, to get me from my house to the road (500 ft away); I live in the foot-hills of Maine (where it snows). You should have seen the face of the all the guys at the local Kubota dealer when I took it in to get the PTO shaft cut down for the snowblower; I felt like such a loser (I’m kind of poor). But...for twelve years, that little tractor did just enough to save the day (but not without some very harrowing moments that, thank-god, no one was recording on their smart-phones). Anyway...this spring, I swore I wasn’t going to torq my back ever again, going in reverse – and I sold the mini-beast. I was determined to find something with a front PTO (that I could afford). Five months later (shaking my head), I admitted defeat and just bought a 1977 B7100 standard transmission drive (28698) with the loader and 1550. hours, for $5100 (it was listed for $5800). I desperately need to freshen this unit up, find a 48/51/54 snowblower and get it ready for winter, quick. I would appreciate your help regarding the following punch-list:

FEL; I want to drain/replace fluids/clean screen – can you please confirm capacity of system, so I know how much to buy and is there one or two screens in the fittings to clean. Is there anything else that I should do to the FEL/pump ?

Front-end; I want to drain/replace fluids – what do I use and how much ? Any tips or additional info on that ?

Exhaust; I want to swap the horizontal muffler for a vertical set up – has anyone done this ?

Hydraulics; I want to drain/replace fluid and clean screen – any advice on what to use and capacity ? Any tips/cautions when doing this ?

I want to replace the front rims as they’re rusting around the valve-stems and put on new ag tires/bar lugs; can somebody confirm wheel size and tire size for updated/wider ag tires like the Carlisle Trac Chief ?

I also want to put the Carlisle Tru Powers on the rear (plan to keep rear wheels); what size please.

Should I install a radiator hose heater on it (it seems to start much easier than the B6000) ?

Does anyone have the fuel-filter and oil filter numbers handy (what’s the favored oil to run for winter apps) ?

What are your thoughts on anything else that I should do ?

Any tips/recommendation on best (cheapest) place to get above stuff ?

Thank you very much for your help.

Welcome! I'm relatively new to owning a Kubota, and mine's an oldie too! I don't have the answers, but someone will come along shortly who can help, I'm sure.

Congrats on the purchase. It looks like you have the exact same set up as I do. I have been more than happy with mine. It just got a new clutch installed. I should be good for another 40 years...lol

I would go here to get free Operator (OPS) and Workshop Service Manuals (WSM). It looks like both are there:

http://kubotabooks.com/

They should get you headed in the right direction.

I didn't look, but there may be a manual for your FEL also.

Also on Kubota books, the B219 manual (FEL):
http://www.kubotabooks.com/AutoIndex/index.php?dir=Loaders and buckets/
That should answer your loader questions. Manual says to use ATF or 30w motor oil, (depending on vintage of the manual) but I have always used standard hydraulic oil, same as the trans/transaxle. I use NAPA, but any decent oil will work.
I changed from the horizontal exhaust to vertical. The exhaust un-bolts from the manifold & will rotate to the vertical position. I took the outlet stub off & had the local muffler shop bend a 180 degree bend in some pipe. (1 3/8" if I remember right?) I then expanded one end slightly to fit on the muffler outlet, and bent up a couple braces. (see pics) I sawed the bend as the pics show to keep the rain out.

Nice ! Looks super Bill. I have down-loaded all of the manuals and will remove muffler today so that I can take it into town this week. Where'd you get those nice wheel-weights ? Thank you everybody, Michael

If that is the only rust, take out the valve stem, weld a patch over the hole and rusted area after cleanup, and drill a new hole elsewhere on the rim and put a new valve stem in.

Following what Shootem said, if the rust is just at the valve stem Iv'e found a washer that has the same ID as the valve stem and tack it in place and then hammer it into the correct curves and keep welding. When done dress with a flap disc.

Thank you both. Thinking now that I am going to flap-disc and prep all of the wheels and spray 'em with some Rustoleum.

On another subject....it looks like Northern Tool has the best deal on a 51 inch snow-blower - - on-sale for $1500-something plus shipping. No store near me, so guess I will pony-up for freight.

I can almost feel that snow flying back into my face now...at four am, after the storm's let up and there's a stiff wind out of the north, roaring straight down my drive-way...

(can't wait) !

Which blower is it that you're looking at at Northern Tool? Would be interested to see what you get for $1500.

BTW I've purchased a B2771 and front mount / harness for one of my B7510 tractors. I can say with certainty that, some cutting/welding/drilling skills would be required to adapt this generation of blower harness to your generation of tractor. Ultimately the newer blowers / harnesses are MUCH more robust than the older ones, at least from what I've been seeing with my small sample size of three units.

You don't have enough PTO HP to run a blower that big. :(
Also it's 612lbs and your three point is 400lbs of lift.

You need to find a model that works at a much lower HP, 10HP to 16HP.
