then today my wife (she teaches at same school) comes down in my room, I told her, I feel like .....shyte......

SHE CALLS the doctor - gets me an appointment for today!!!!!!!!!

Principal comes down - great lady, would not even let me do anything - told me to scat - get there now......I had the nurse check my ol bp - shyte that reading scared me!

anyway - long story short, ekg was normal , do a stress test tomorrow at local hospital and got some bp meds........

I had a similar experience as you..got to feeling REAL bad at work, blood pressure sky high, but I wasn't smart enough to listen to health care staff..I went home, took my migraine meds and took a nap. When I woke up, blood pressure was still pretty high, so my wife calls Dr office and immediately put me on Lisinipril with an appt to follow in a couple days. Long story short, my little episode ended up uncovering the fact that I had prostate cancer. With God's blessing, my next PSA test in a few days will come back and show that I'm still cancer free 3.5 years after my surgery.

Well fact is I am a 73Hokie and a ten year prostate cancer survivor. Yes, getting old sucks, but getting even older is very sweet. Especially after you get that phone call with the diagnosis.

Getting old definitely not for the feeble. Had my experience four years ago, was only 55. Had to fly me to the city and stick a little culvert in my heart to open the blockage. Life is never quite the same after.

Hokie, here's wishing you the best outcome with your tests, and hoping everything is OK. :D

Just got the results from my annual physical yesterday. Cholesterol isn't the best. Gotta go back in three months for that to be checked again. Gotta go back next week to get my blood count checked again. White blood count was pretty high  Showed my wife the results. She's a nurse. Said the bad cholesterol is just a little high, and gotta bring my good cholesterol back up. Meaning I gotta go back on fish oil and deal with the fish burps. And the high white blood count usually means on infection. So, probably my sinuses again.

Blew off my eye appointment this year. Prescription on my glasses is good for another year. Blew off the appointment because the eye doctor said I was borderline needing bifocals last year. :(

I'm an 8 year prostate cancer survivor. I'll be 75 tomorrow.
Whoever named these the golden years must have been about 20 years old.

85Hokie, I hope you get to feeling better soon and find out what changes you need to make.

I'm sure teaching those rascals will raise anyone's blood pressure! Maybe you'll have to consider a job as a tractor salesman.:D

First heart episode was about 3 years ago. High cholesterol and a ton of stress. I thought it was food poisoning. Two days in hospital and they sent me home. A few months later it turns out ekg showed an abnormal reading and dr wants to investigate. So 9 months after the fact dr tells me there was damage.
Cholesterol is down so is my energy.

Long story short, stress was through the roof, and it got the better of me. A few more months of same job and i decided if i was going to die at work it would be on my terms and i walked out. No notice, just went home. Been working at home ever since.
Now im 52, cholesterol meds suck and i hurt all over.
Not to mention eyesight isnt what it used to be.
Do enjoy working at home, should have done it ten years ago.

Good luck to you. Sure do have to heed the warning signs at our age. I will be 60 soon. No meds so far but sure cant move and see like I use too but feel good overall and not giving up and enjoying life. Still enjoy my Kubota, my shop, and my Harley. Always enjoy all your posts. You are one of the staples on this site and you were the first one to comment to me when I joined this forum which I never forgot. Best of luck to you!!!

Gentleman

I appreciate those with prostrate cancer sharing your stories with us! That takes courage and fortitude to fight that and we need more fellas to talk about it!

I go to my skinny little Doctor that tells me I have high bp, high cholesterol, I drink to much and should live off of beans and give up bacon. Says I will live 7 years longer?

told him if I have to live off beans and give up my 3 strips of bacon a week I don't want to live 7 years longer.

Do my best to eat well, exercise and deal with stress. Bacon won't kill me but stress will!

Live long and prosper my friends!

I turned 60 this year and had a heart scare over the summer. Lots of classic symptoms, ambulance trip to the ER, but no apparent damage. Heart cath (through the wrist) a couple weeks later identified 40% blockage in secondary arteries. About what the cardiologist expected in a guy my age, but not the likely cause of my episode - which was probably stress. Being treated with statins and working on the work stress. We hit our R:IQ number this fall (https://www.chrishogan360.com), and stress is less knowing I could just walk away.

Best Wishes, Hokie.

I'm 66 and have had the doo-doo scared out of me twice with health issues. The first one at 41 caused me to quit putting off things I wanted to do, the second caused me to quit putting off retirement.

Stress is a bi*ch. I traded a $19/hr full time job for a $10/hr part time job because of it @ 53, and traded any job at all for Social Security because of it @ 62.

Two of the best decisions I've ever made.

Guys (and ladies)

thanks for all the kinds words and reminding me that as we get older we have to deal with stuff differently!

Funny thing is - as far as stress, I told the doctor yesterday, I dont have that much on me, my kids at school are pretty dang ol good - with few or any problems, the people at the top are great - wife is still loves me, my children are doing well too.......

I think that running around all the time in high gear is what makes my heart to beat a little faster! I am not one to sit for long, other than type to you fine folks - But I need to slow down a click and do the "right" things.

Off to the stress test this morning - hope that doesnt hurt to bad!:D:)

I 'll let ya'll know how that turns out.

thanks again - all of you! Best bunch in the world!;):)
