Quite a few of the restaraunts around here are extremely short staffed. Hence the limited hours of operation. Every one around here is hiring. But there are also quite a few folks milking the unemployment as well. Until they get cut off, we will be in this position
I was eating-out very recently and the table next to ours entered into our conversation…. they claimed to manage a high-end restaurant at a local golf course…and blamed their inability to get hired help on unemployment benefits. That’s pure B.S. in my opinion …and told them so.

The reason help doesn’t come to the job is because the job doesn’t PAY sufficient wages. You can’t expect people to take Your Job which is still offering pre-covid-inflation wages….when the worker is facing Increasing prices on everything they must pay for. It’s a two-way-street.

Do you think that private businesses should be in competition with government programs? Personally I like free enterprise, we should try it sometime.

I'll disagree with you there. Do wages need to increase???? Yes, But at the same time the people that want to work, are already working.

I know of two people bi**hing right now because they "can't find work", or that job is "beneath them" when offered one. One of those said people has 2 more months, then it's boot to booty and they can find out what truly being homeless is about.

I told both of them the same thing. The job is paying more then what you are making now!!!

Both also brought up a living wage. Well when your currently making $0.00. $10 an hour is $400 more then what your bringing in currently.

Both were also upset over the states cutting out the federal bonus for unemployment. That $600 works out to $36,000 a year. If that person was also qualifying for max unemployment at $425. Well that works out to $1,025 a week to sit on your fanny doing nothing. Thats over $100k a year for a couple if both qualified for max unemployment, in case you missed it. 😉😉😉

Heck... where can my wife and I sign up. We'll take a 25,000 a year pay cut to sit on or fannies at the house 👍👍👍👍

Unemployment was set up for short term support to keep you semi afloat till you can get another job. What happened during the pandemic was it got turned into and considered welfare.

There's a big difference between the two.

Maybe you’re right…. Maybe we should GET RID of Small Business Loans and Corporate Tax Loopholes like depreciation, etc etc. Yeah…THATs the ticket…. NO GOVT HELP for Businesses!
Who ever in their right mind ever thought Govt should be FOR THE PEOPLE….$\?

I suppose you’re also opposed to Agriculture Tax Exemptions…

That’s the difference between capitalism and socialism…. In a socialist society the Govt tells you Where to work, When you’ll work, and How Much you’ll make.!

In a free society.. a working man/woman gets to decide Where, When, and How much and Who-For…and also can QUIT whenever they want to. Quitters don’t get unemployment benefits. You wanna give “boot to booty”..?? Then you’ll pay the unemployment….as it SHOULD be. The unemployed worker has contributed to their own unemployment benefits thru their taxes.. It’s called “unemployment INSURANCE for a REASON.

I have been in business for half my life with absolutely no help from government. I don't enjoy paying exorbitant taxes to feather the nest of others, especially owners of large parcels of land. Wealth redistribution IS NOT GOVT HELP!

I don't understand why so many conversations on here seem to devolve into off-topic political debate. Like moths to a campfire.......

At least the original discussion about grease was helpful - Thanks OP.

That boot to booty reference didn't have anything to do with a job. The person referenced is dead set on being a bum and homeless 😉😉😉 you completely missed my reference on both those people. Neither work, neither collect any type of government assistance. Both are in their early 30's, and complaining that they can't find work.

There are plenty of jobs out there. They won't take the job offered because of either political reasons, the boss came off as a jerk, or the job is beneath them, had to shave (grooming standards).........

My whole point about that idiot i referenced. It doesn't matter what the job is, any job out there is gonna bring in more money then what your making now. And the national bank of mom and dad is gonna close soon 😉😉😉

TSC still has plenty of Shell Rotella, Valvoline, and their Traveller brands at fair prices. (surprised that Shell Rotella SD Moly is 50-cents less than their imported “cheap” Traveller Moly.)

No sign of shortage… sold individually or by the case.…sorta…. If you pick up a case…they break open the box and scan each/every tube individually.

As for lubricants/oil shortages: The Middle East oil is less impactful on the U.S. than in previous decades because the U.S. has become self-sufficient and has returned to being a net exporter.

There is a tendency for internet rumors to go unchecked. Example: A story related to the Covid-19 pandemic talks about the restaurant slowdowns/shutdowns…. and THAT has resulted in a shortage of “restaurant grease” supplies…. which is used as a base-stock for reneweable and bio diesel and other oil-base feedstocks. https://www.freightwaves.com/news/restaurant-grease-for-renewable-diesel-in-short-supply

The internet being what it is…. makes a restaurant business slow-down into a “grease shortage” story…. helped along by an unrelated lubricant-production facility fire at a business historically plagued with employee stories* of safety and emergency-plan shortcuts. A fire at a key production facility paired with a “shortage” of product might mean increased loss-of-value should a set-back occur. Can you say “insurance”?

Well spoken.

You and I should draft a finely hewn piece of legislation ensuring that those in need have access to grease.

Grease Shortage…??? Well…don’t tell Tractor Supply!

I just went by TSC today and found that Shell Rotella HD (Heavy Duty) RED-Lithium grease, normally selling for $3.95…is marked DOWN to $3.49…. but rang-up at the register for $2.50. I bought a case of TEN for $25.

Their Traveller “Exteme Duty” 3% Moly…normally selling for $4.29…. rang up for $2.29. I bought another case of TEN for $22.90.

I expect not to need more grease until the burned-out grease producer is completely rebuilt and back in business. (I already had a few tubes of each still when I stocked-up.)

So much for another “internet rumor”….??

I'm so glad I bought a new truck last year. The price gouging and charging above MSRP is nuts.
I recently looked at a new 2021 F150 online at a Massachusetts , same model as mine same options, the V8 option in mine was $2000. in the 2021 the V8 option went up to $3600. , over all the cost went up $7000. from one year to the next.
Getting back to the lubrication thread. TSC had mobil1 five qt jugs for $25. I bought several. Also Travelers grease tubes $3. bucks I think.

Globalization and supply chain drying up to blame.

COVID affecting China and they also have new electrical grid supply issues.... they are a mess and so is North American as our leaders sold out to China in the 90's, 2000's, 2010's .

Moving manufacturing to a country with low labour costs and no environmental laws sounded good to the greedy meglomaniacs leading most western companies but... it is OK TO LIE IN CHINA.... the west stupidly assumed China has similar business ethics... they were 100% wrong. IP theft, extortion, no quality control, no control of supply chain and no law certainly has its consequences..... thank Clinton, Bush, & Obama for the mess in the USA.

Now China has concentration camps, conducts genecide, and is colonizing Africa...... and no one blinks an eye. Evil world all around us.

I understand your frustration but this is a catastrophe and not some sort of government conspiracy
May not be a conspiracy but when you pay people to stay home and not work products, supplies, and inventory are gone. Then we get this. Just because there is no conspiracy doesn’t mean a lack of culpability.
