Generator Starting

I've got a generator / welder that I drag out and use about every 6 months. Been having to use starting fluid to get it to pull the gas up. Today I put a outboard motor primer bulb on it. Much better.

On gasoline engines mostly…. Kubota warns against its’ use on diesels due to pre-ignition damage issues.

Is it gas or diesel? Agree if diesel not good to use starter fluid. Primer bulb was great idea works like fuel pump to inject small amount of gas

really need to specify WHICH diesel engine as to ether or no ether...
For 15 years I've used 3 seconds of ether for every start of my forklift..winter,spring, summer and fall ,1000s of starts, zero issues

also seen on TV, guys spraying 1/4-1/2 can into heavy equipment and huge water pumps....zero problems...

If you must brake cleaner is easier on diesels than either.

The 'ether' I use has a lot of other chemicals (oils ??) in it, specifically to help 'lube' the internals during starting.
I use brake cleaner to kill the nasty wasps and carpenter bees....

The problem is likely the carburetor and can be replace for $40-$80.

'gas' in tank... WHAT kind of 'gas' ?
All that have ethanol in it, attracts water, which of course sits at the bottom of the tank,so first into the carb.water in bowl allows 'junk' to form, electrolysis to happen, more bad news.....
ideally drain entire system, clean carb, fill tank to brim with PURE gas + stabilizer, run for 20 minutes,shut off gas cock, run dry.
