My B7000 sounds like an old Jeep CJ3 in low range. The lube level is fine. I'm guessing this is normal?!?

When I test drove my L3800HST in high range, it almost deafened me! Now, I regularly wear headphones (with AM/FM!) when operating at anything outside of low range and mid power.

The reason is, tractors use straight cut gears. Cars used to have straight cut but went to helical cut because they mesh quieter. Straight cut is the stronger design and strong is what a tractor is all about.

I knew about the straight cut gears. I guess it's been a long time since I've driven anything with them.

Are we spoiled or what?

And part of my noise is the HST fluid noise. Thing sounds like its gonna 'splode when I am traveling at a blistering 21mph. I have never gone beyond 2500 rpm and I am afraid to do so.

Even the cheapest bare-bones car today has technology everywhere. Probably why entry-level cars today can last 20 years if you take care of them. My first car was a 3 year-old '69 Torino GT and it was nearly junk by the time I got it.

I think I have it figured out. If I run the throttle up, I don't notice the gear noise because the engine is so loud!;)

Whatever it takes to complete the mission!!!

I wear a AM/FM headset but I am not sure that would work for you over there... Mine does plug into iPod devices too. Tunes make the noise more palatable and the headphones cut that noise by 2/3.

By BX is loud too - I am hoping in the spring to change to the SUTD2 ....as $$$ as it is - it should be better for the tractor and my EARS!!!! Time will tell:D

When I test drove my L3800, I thought it was going to explode in high range and 2000 rpm! My friend who went with me to look at it has a very nice green tractor that probably has 18hp tops. His little Yanmar diesel is quiet as can be. He thought there was something wrong with it too. :)

Now I am used to it. I wear headphones whenever traveling with the machine but honestly have never been past PTO speed, or roughly 2500 rpm because of the noise. I hate making machines strain.

Anyone out there know what the torque curve looks like for these little motors? Am I going to get anything more out of it above 2500? Is it going to wear faster or do damage to visit 2700 or 3000 on occasion? I figured the 540 PTO mark was the high spot on the power curve so any more revs just burns more gas and makes more noise.

One of you diesel mechs knows the answer....

How can you know if you're in the curve without a tach?
