When I test drove my L3800, I thought it was going to explode in high range and 2000 rpm! My friend who went with me to look at it has a very nice green tractor that probably has 18hp tops. His little Yanmar diesel is quiet as can be. He thought there was something wrong with it too.
Now I am used to it. I wear headphones whenever traveling with the machine but honestly have never been past PTO speed, or roughly 2500 rpm because of the noise. I hate making machines strain.
Anyone out there know what the torque curve looks like for these little motors? Am I going to get anything more out of it above 2500? Is it going to wear faster or do damage to visit 2700 or 3000 on occasion? I figured the 540 PTO mark was the high spot on the power curve so any more revs just burns more gas and makes more noise.
One of you diesel mechs knows the answer....
