Just wondering ,I have a 2501(21 hours on it) it seems rather thirsty.It is using about a gallon of fuel an hour just puttering around.Its not a big issue at all and if it's always like this that's ok.My 601 only uses about 5gallons in 8 hours pulling it hard.Like I said ,not a problem ,just wondering.

Hmmm, I seem to think my BX23S is thirsty compared to my Allis 5020. I definitely know the hours click on a lot faster the old cable tech of the 5020, took 35 or so years to register 1100 hours I put 100 on the BX in 5 months.

I keep track of the fuel I put in my L3901DT and the hours, it is averaging 2.4 hours per gallon. I would think that your L2501 would get close to that.

I would fill it up and write down the hours on the tractor, then when you fill it up the next time you can see what it is really using.

Dang that's a lot of GPH for a 37 HP tractor. My M7040(70 HP) uses 2.5 GPH pulling my JD 467 rd baler making 4X5.5 bales. My JD 4255(133 HP) on uses 3.2 GPH pulling same rd baler making same size bales

I will try to be more precise on checking.I do know it was full when delivered to me and at (10 hrs)1/2 tank on gauge I put in 5 gals (the gauge appears to be really accurate) and again at 15 hrs,now at 21 hrs adding 5 more.It pulls very good for 25 hp.To me, it seems to be a higher hp engine tuned down for the Feds but is using the fuel of the higher output engine.Im very happy with it ,if that's the nature of it that's ok.

10 hrs using 5 gallons= 1/2 gallon per hour

Keep in mind that the new tractors (for the most part) use diesel fuel to regen so they use more fuel than the pre- tier 4 engines. My M's are real frugal on fuel but PTO load (depending on implement and power requirement) causes consumption to go up. never tracked it, it gets low I pump in more.

One of the major reasons I went with a 2 speed (540-1000 rpm) pto. The power requirements on my hay tools is such that I can afford to run the engines at reduced rpm and power output as well as lower fuel consumption and still have enough pto output for the hay tools to perform correctly.

I see no point in running the engine at rated rpm to achieve 540 when I can run the engine at basically 1/3 rated rpm to achieve 540 with the 1000 rpm 21 spline output. Only drawback that I can see is you need a 21-6 spline adapter to run 6 spline implements.

One thing I did have to add was a 12 volt auxillary fan to the AC condenser under the hood to enhance the airflow through it at reduced engine rpm. There wasn't sufficient airflow through the ac condenser, the intercooler and the radiator combined to provide sufficient heat exchange, especially at the AC condenser which on my units is the farthest from the radiator fan.

Interestingly, when I owned a 5030 HSTC cab model, I also had air flow issues through the ac condenser, the HST cooler and the radiator and I had to add rubber deflectors to channel the air flow and an auxillary 12 volt cooling fan as well.

I’m sorry I’m getting my 5s and 10s confused . I’m putting in 5 gal every 5 hrs on tach.Sidecar, the 2501 doesn’t regen or have a dpf.

Just to be forthcoming,my 2501 stays in 4wd ALL the time and I do idle a lot, but when using it ,I run it at about 2000 rpm that seems to be the sweet spot for the hst.

My 2501 HST just turned 50 hours although I did the filter changes and engine oil changes early. Fuel usage has been really good, but havent checked it lately. Right now the gauge says below half, and when I checked the tank visually, its just below the ledge, so probably have about 3 gals left. Id guess my usage is closer to 1/2 GPH... YMMV

Time to get some fresh diesel while its cheaper, and put a little Power Service white bottle in it for the winter. I run the RPMS around 1600 rpm unless needing extra OOOMPH, BUT use the ranges L, M, H and rarely use 4WD. My 2 cents

Staying in 4wd all the time will greatly accelerate front tire wear and impact GPH fuel usage as well.

I've also got the L3901DT about a month ago. Just turned 22 hours with about 16 of that cutting tall, dry grass with a RCR1260 rotary cutter. Had the engine up to full PTO speed to get thru it without bogging. The rest of the time was loader and scraper work at about 2000 rpm. Fuel use so far is about 13 gallons. So I'm at about 0.6 GPH. Not bad.

And still no regen as far as I could tell. I think the hard cutting is burning the soot out of the DPF.

So far my 2650 has taken 21 hours to burn thru 12 gallons, so ... 0.57 gph. That's all been bucket, back hoe, and box blade work. 12 gallons seems awefull cheap compared to the amount of sheer work it's produced.

I had an outlier recently where I did a great deal of trenching and had the rpms set for the PTO pump for the backhoe. Actually ran out of fuel well before expected and had to crack the injectors and prime the system. I'm so used to 5 gallons lasting me for a couple of months of idling around the yard.

Another data point... I have a pair of B7510's, so 21 engine HP. Blowing snow, which is running the machine pretty much as hard as it will go most of the time, results in a fuel burn of very close to 1 US gallon/hour.

There isn't any way in the world I would begrudge the machine that gallon of fuel because it moves such an incredible amount of snow in that time.

I work with a guy that has a new 2501 and seems to think his too burns more fuel then it should too. I got the previous model to the 01 series and really don’t think it burns that much compared to the work it’s doing, I’ve never really checked the usage to hours,just put fuel in it when it needs it. Maybe because his is hst and mine is geared?
