I have a l2850gst that was given to me. Everything works except the transmission. The previous owner took it to a dealership that diagnosed the problem as part number 32420-68300 gate valve assembly. Is this a rebuildable part and if so which downloadable work shop manual and parts manual should I look for also what is the function of this valve

From the parts diagram at Kubotausa.com it appears that part can be reached from the side of the tractor. If that is true, you might take it out. The part costs $2,281.06 so I'd want to be pretty sure that was the problem before buying it. The exploded diagram does show some individual parts on it so maybe...it might be "rebuildable".

One thing I learned in life is that a "Free" gift can be very expensive.

Hey MHT, you are my not so distant neighbor. I live south of Angier and work in Fuquay.

The guys at the Kubota dealer in Garner are great to deal with, give them a shout.

Good luck.

I'd hazard a guess a broken oring could stop one of these, whether you have the time/patience/skills to delve in/diagnose and repair/rebuild, I don't know. But if you got it for nicks, then if you are so inclined, it may be a rewarding project(or not) which could cost a few cents and a bit of time or a lot of money and a lot more time.

Some hydraulic gauges and adapters for testing may be a good start, lots on ebay, this is just one, you may need other gauges or adapters etc.. Good luck with it, I'd certainly give it a go.
YMMV

EDIT: Plus one of these, no idea if available in pdf for sale, but I expect dealers have them in pdf format.........

Hi - does the machine move under its own power at all? Any noises when moving the shift lever? Does the lever move normally, clicking at each gear?

Assuming the tractor doesn't move, but the loader and lower arms lift ok, does the power steering work ? If not the PS pump could be the issue. - it feeds the GST too. If PS is ok then there are 7 pressures to look at before the gate valve is implicated, and even then the modulating valve could still be the problem. I'm not ready to buy the "bad gate valve" idea without a chart of pressures.

The WSM (not aware of a download) has a chapter on the L2850 GST - shows the several valves and has pics of them disassembled. But no dimensions, tolerances, info for repairing.

I'll bet its something more external like the shifter for the rotary valve. Hopefully Wolfman will chime in.

Thanks for the information so far I’m still waiting for the previous owner to round up some more parts so I can connect some linkages and lines back up so I can do my own trouble shooting. I’m only going off information the previous owner gave me that a dealership gave him. Once I get all the parts I’ll troubleshoot and decide for myself. I’m a former caterpillar heavy equipment mechanic so I feel comfortable checking pressures and trouble shooting once I get a service manual. Just trying to learn all I can before I jump into it

Have seen quite a few L50 series back in the day with broken/damaged/worn out GST clutches. Some just worn out, others the snap ring broke out of the clutch pack and stopped movement altogether. It wasn't the most common issue, however it was a sore subject with me because it took so long to access it (split)-especially if it had a loader and/or backhoe.
