First time tractor owner

Just took delivery of a L3301 with L525 FEL today and got to put about .3 on the hour meter to make it an even 1.0!

The L3301 will be put to use on a 30 acre parcel in New Hampshire which is a "new to us" home. There are about 3 acres of lawn and the remainder un-managed woodlands with a few gravel roads to maintain.

I have the 66" bucket; LandPride forks and a LandPride spreader as the initial options. Also got the canopy and lights and had the turf tires filled for ballast.

I'm a newbie to tractors in general and Kubota in particular but have already learned a lot from reading the forums and appreciate all of the advice offered.

I'm looking forward to participating and learning a lot.

I selected the turf's primarily due to their expected performance during the next snow season, and secondarily due to the lawn. I was on the tractor for a while this morning moving some limbs that had fallen during the winter down to the back and found many areas still too wet and soft to drive over. (We're new to the house so I'll have to map those out for *next* mud season - assuming there will be an end to *this* mud season! )

I would not have thought turf tires would outperform R1 or 3 tires in snow conditions....that is what you are saying right? we don't get much of that way down here.

All the dealers I talked to here in Michigan recommended turf tires for snow. I had no problems with the turf tires blowing snow up my hill or plowing up the hill with the rear blade. Sometimes I needed 4 wheel drive, but never came close to needing chains. In the snow traction comes from the number of edges on the tires not the depth of the tread.

very interesting. I never would have guessed honestly. I would agree with more contact patch in most scenarios being a drag racer. makes good sense. I've been contemplating having turfs and ordering a set of wheels with ag tires extra. curious what that might cost me.

I had the same advice re: turfs and if next winter is like this one was this tractor is going to be moving a bunch of snow piles to allow the plow truck to perform. We ran out of room to move snow and were darn lucky that winter wound down when it did.

If your dealer talked about chains, I can see that. Chains are quite effective with turfs.

Turfs without chains, good luck, unless doing a flat, short, suburban driveway.

The JD 425 I used to have had turfs, and 2WD with nice 2-link chains. A lot of time was spent with the diff lock engaged, and even then slopes, etc. were iffy.

I can tell you your 4WD tractors will not get anywhere without chains if you "really" get winter in your area. Turfs, R4, or R1 are not different, especially if things get iced over.

Just MHO after doing a short, wide, and hilly driveway for 25 years......

The best snow pictures always come from Georgia. It usually starts when they get about 1/2 inch of snow.

Well, we got well over 100" of snow this year and, at least to a Texas born guy like me, that's going to be in the running for a "real" winter unless you live in Siberia. LOL

However, to be clear, I don't expect this tractor to plow my 500' driveway and road down to the barn. I've got a 4WD Ford F250 truck that pushes an 8' plow for that. I just need to move some of the snow that the plow piles up so that we have a place to push the snow from the *next* storm. (This year I was at the limit of pushing snow anywhere and was looking at hiring a big FEL to come and convert some of my snow to cash in the operator's pocket. )

Looking at your picture it looks like a relatively small amount of snow, maybe 12"~14"? I'm guessing you set your blower pretty high as it looks like you made a fair number of passes and still have enough snow on the ground to leave very clear tire (and chain) markings. What type of surface is under the snow in that area - gravel?
