Firewood Processor build

Heres something I have been working on in my spare time.
I started it a couple months back and did get to work on it today.
The frame and axle is roughed in and the hydraulic chainsaw is tack welded together.
Nothing is much more than tacked welded together until I see if anything will need changed,
I only have a picture in my head and I am sure things will change as I go on.
Today I machined parts for the saw assembly and got that mounted so now it is kinda taking shape
heres a few pictures,they are not much but take a look.
I know I really like watching threads of what guys are building so I will try posting mine.
I found out one big thing today when I started welding,its something I was pretty good at but now that eyesight with a welding helmet on isnt what it used
to be I am going to have to look into a self dimming helmet with a way to adjust the shade.
It is just too dark with the helmet I have to be able to see well

I was hoping to have it done by now but theres just not enough time to
do the things we really enjoy
I bought the 3 CNC machines (Emcoturn 140 Lathe,Bridgeport Machining Center
and a Bridgeport Series II milling machine) so I could make whatever parts I needed for different projects but soon found there was so much cnc work to be had that they spend more time doing that than make stuff for myself.
For the time being I have been shying away from outside work so I could make my stuff
Oh well they pay for alot of the parts I need to make my own stuff.
I am anxious to see this project come together and go to work
I dont expect it to be super fast just tryiing to eliminate handling my firewood at home so much

Nice work! The best part is always the self satisfaction you get when it is up and running. Make sure you do not skimp on safety guards.
Nice lathes as well, I just have an older Myford but does everything I need only slower.

Its a home shop,crowded in a 24x32 building,
I just wanted to be able to make what I needed at home.
I am a machinist by trade but I do enjoy machining enough to do it at home too
I will get some pictures of the shop as soon as I can

Haven,t worked on the wood processor for quite awhile but I am back on it now
I have changed my idea of how I want it and did some changes before I went any further
I was going with a hydraulic motor on the saw and driving the entire machine with a pto pump
I never really liked tying up my tractor with a loader just to run the hydraulics
when I could use the loader to load logs
I have purchased a 24 hp Honda GX670 that will be capable of running things
I have went to a 12v clutch on the motor to belt drive the saw
This meant building a new saw

CNC in a home shop is beyond spoiled, "I just need it for my own parts!", yeah wish I could say that. I'm scrimpin' and savin' just to find an old Southbend 10Heavy I can afford... sheesh.

You do great work, it looks awesome. I can't say I'm not jealous as heck, because I am! (Your shop could rebuild my D-17 out of raw stock!... LOL!)

I actually bought the machines to do work for other shops and thats
how they paid for themselves.
I just wanted to be able to make my own stuff too.
A lot of the work I did for awhile was repetitive so a cnc was best suited for the jobs
Believe me without running them to pay for them I could not of afforded to get them but now they are paid for they can stay
I had to keep watching for a motor I could afford and finally one turned up on CraigsList and the guy wanted to trade some tools I had toward the price so it worked out great for us both
I still have a lot of work to do on this thing yet and a lot of deciding how I want to do some of it
Not sure how I want to feed the log forward yet
Was deciding between a winch to pull it or a hydraulic motor and some kind of
spiked drum to advance it
The winch is the cheapest and seems to work fine on units I have seen on You Tube
Thanks for looking at my progress however slow it is at times and I would appreciate any comments or suggestions you guys have
Someone always sees what may be a better way to do something and I would appreciate any input
