What a weekend, a real celebration ( Fathers Day ) coupled with the most stupid Federal holiday Congress has been able to cram down our throat.

I was born on Father's day and there is a very high probability that my first grandchild (a boy) will arrive today or tomorrow and he will have my Dad's name and middle initial! A birthday buddy and the best Father's day gift ever!!

Had a great fathers day. A backyard at the daughter's house filled with grand kids. Four of mine and the rest from the SIL family. A good time.

I tried to not think about that today, although my sons called me. I lost my father back in April and I’m executor of his estate. The day is different now.

Lost my father in July last year. It does put a different spin on the day, for sure. He was the clear patriarch of the family. Now that generation is gone and it’s me and my brother as the only representatives of the current elder generation. That, and Dad just isn’t here. (However the ongoing legal mess he left almost daily evokes fond memories of him as we slog through it.) Of course we miss him. Stopped by his grave Friday to check on the flowers that are there always.

Spent the afternoon paddling with my wife, son, and his fiancé. Loaded up a canoe and a couple of kayaks and headed to a local lake that tends toward little power boat traffic. It was different; but a good day.

My dad and his dad were both born on Mothers Day
my son and grandson were born on the same day in August
