Came up the county road from 1 1/2 mile away to help a guy. Another neighbor came out and said he thinks my old geared unit with the backhoe is faster than his tractor.

I can't remember what I said.... Maybe for the best.

If it's in the steering box, you can get rebuild parts or even a whole new box.

It is in the box, not the ends. Right in the middle. I know not to tighten it. But I rarely go fast and I was actually impressed. The 'ol thing really hunkered down but was a bit smoky.

There is no reconciliation of total hours. At least three hour meters since I got it. But it just goes and goes.

Done. But I'll have to paint it. Thanks Wolfman.

That paint for blue stuff isn't readily available.

Yeah, I seem to remember my B7100 being stupid fast in top gear. Steering wasn't an issue unless in top gear throttled up, then it was amusing. Like the disney autopia cars.

I miss that B7100 sometimes.

I was in town yesterday and the store had the full display rack of Rustoleum. From memory it looks like what they call Dark Grey Gloss was the closest match. There is no option called Old Faded Oxidized Dark Grey Matte. ;)

According to Tractor Data a geared B7100 is a little slower than the hydrostatic version.

It seems as 'fast as a fool' in top gear in high range with several inches of play in the steering wheel. It is controllable but dicey on narrow lanes. I lived it in my teens in the 1970s driving the B7100 to do tractor work for neighbors. To by knowledge, my B7100 was before there was Hydrostatic anything in Kubota. It was all manual gear drive back then.

And because I grew up on a tractor with a manual transmission, that is my preference. Even today. My current LX2610 is a hydro, but if it was available in gear shift with shuttle when I bought it in 2022, I would have gone that way.

I get it. I also grew up with manual transmissions. I much prefer manual transmissions when available. Especially in vehicles.

That's me. A geared machine with a clutch.

And this is why I hate MS Windows. It's the computer version of automatic transmissions.
