Started working on the dune buggy for the grand kiddos :D So far I've got it clean and welded the steering arm back on. I narrowed it down to a blown motor (no compression), and the electrical has been cobbed together and needs to be cleaned up and fixed. Turn signals need to be replaced as well.

So on to a transmission question. The motor and torque converter it uses are out of a Honda scooter. (Gy6 engine) It also uses an adapter on the drive shaft that also has a reversor built in, So you can back up. Found online where they sell the cable for the reverse. But not sure where the cable hooks up to it  Supposedly what I was told is the cable works in junction with the parking brake lever. Anyone out there that has some experience with a similar set up for a go cart? The cart it a twister "hammerhead"

Looks like a fun project.

Generally speaking, if it's cable actuated you should find a lever in there some place on the transmission.

What sized diesel are you going to put in it
No diesel going in it :( Ordered a direct replacement motor for it yesterday. With the way the suspension works on the rear end, it would have been a bear trying to stuff something else in there.

Gonna hold off getting the reverse hooked up. It's light enough to be able to push backwards. To get the reverse working, it would be around $200 between the extra handle, reverser, and cable. That will be something we may do later.

Yes sir :D It's gonna need new tires soon. We're figuring thats gonna be a little bigger priority then the reverse.. Sons gonna come over when I get ready to test it out. Got a sneaky suspicion that between the two of us, there are gonna be some burn outs and donuts in the near future :D And probably gonna speed it up, on needing new tread

I have a brand new Koehler in that garage that's set up the same way. My in laws have a 15hp set like the predator and Koehler. If I could have came up a way to hook em up, That 15 hp would have been fun :D

Here's what it uses for a motor and torque converter set up.

Motor showed up today :D

Gonna have to get busy tomorrow. Pull the old motor and roll the frame outside for a good cleaning. Then pull it back inside and paint it. Didn't expect the motor till Tuesday. Fenders, seat belts and cables should be in around the middle part of the week. Gonna check out the auto parts store for the turn signals and see what I can find.

My wife just said she wanted me to paint it "pink camouflage" I told her it was cruel to give the grandsons a pink dune buggy

Kiddos are getting reverse  pulled the reverse and sprocket off. Guts are gone in the case. No big deal there. Was't too worried about reverse. But....... The sprocket that is attached is cooked. So, off to eBay to get the reverser coming. Since it's getting the new reverser, might as well order the handle and cable as well.

Here's the rats nest in the wiring.

My favorite so far that I've found with this project :D

This is keeping the motor from dropping out of the motor mounts by the seat :D

Don't you just love people who have no clue, no common sense, & no skills "repairing" things?
I restore old toys & 90% of the time, 90% of the repair/restoration work needed is because some hack has been there before me, apparently practicing to be a brain damaged butcher.
The repair/rebuild I'm currently doing on my B7100 front axle is only necessary because some taterhaid did not fix it properly the first time.
(In fact, didn't fix it at all, just put it back together with the ground-up parts, used gaskets & seals, & gobs of RTV.)

Daren, gotta buy that reverser after all.

And you've heard it said, "You can't buy happiness!"

I think whoever said that might be wrong in this instance.:D:D

Li foot, I agree with your statement. See it all the time at work. Just got a guy spanked pretty good, for not fixing brakes on equipment. 7 out of the 9 I had shipped in had busted or crimped brake lines. Bone dry on brake fluid. One was missing brake shoes all together. The other common one I get, is someone filling an environmental cavity between lip seals with silicone or rtv instead of replacing a bad lip seal  The idiot had to tear it down to put the silicone in it

Or my favorite, having a bearing cavity set up for grease, complete with zirc fittings, you can look and see that the lip seals were in backwards. Idiots would fill the bearing cavity with oil. Have it leak after a couple weeks. Bring it into the shop, tear it down. Put new lip seals in "backwards", a new mechanical seal at $1800  put it back together. Send it out and repeat the process after a couple weeks  Hence, why I've been having to go back and forth between conway and north dakota. Got up there, saw what they were doing and lost my s@@t with them. One of the guys said "It's not gonna do any good to leave out the oil. The bearings are just gonna burn up from just having grease in them". He got demoted from mechanic to yard b@@tch before I left

I had 7 gocarts at one time, one with an extended frame with a 400 twin cylinder yamaha and 6 speed trans.. that thing was a BLAST. On your rear tires, try to get the rear ones with rounded outside edges and no knobby's.. keeps the tire from digging in and flipping the cart.

Good advice :D Thank you :) I haven't considered the tires other then they needed to be replaced sometime soon :D
