Dual rear wheels on a BX

A number of guys say the BX tractors can be tippy …. has anybody come up with a dual rear wheel mod ??

They're only tippy if you use them improperly.......

old skool duals... cut 2 'rings' from a section of 1/4" wall pipe, place between the rim, use 4 looong carriage bolts/flats/locks/nuts . Has worked for me for 3+ decades,several times. Check with local metal fab shops for 'cutoffs' as pipe that size is kinda pricey !

Looking at the size of the axles on the BX23s, I would NOT be running dual wheels.

wheel spacers are your best option.

I agree. Put some wheel extenders on first. If you still aren't happy, put in liquid ballast into the rear tires. Neither will make your tractor extra wide like that.

How about duals with the outside pair a size or two smaller? Then you'd have stabilizers that are not putting any pressure on anything, except when needed.

Afterall, it's designed to haul 700+#s of backhoe. Spreading the weight out with duallies should not affect it, spreads the weight out over more ground.
Old garden tractors like A-C, Sears, etc. sold duallie kits and they have smaller diameter axles. Never in 30 years seen one busted.
What the BX23S is NOT designed for is a full bucket load of 'stuff'. They say 700# capacity but you'll blister out the GM tires PDQ !

Take a one foot pipe wrench and see how much force you get then take a 4 foot wrench and see how much force you get, that's the same issue with duals.
Duals multiply the force on the axles tremendously, it's not a matter of weight it's a matter of torque.

hmm... the pipe wrench example implies ALL the force is transferred from one end of the wrench to the other ( just 2 point loads ).
That's not the case with duals, they spread the force load over the entire width of the tires, so there'll be less impact.

The Sears ST12 series of garden tractors had a forklift option(rare, worth $$$ tday !) and duals were part of it. FL was rated for 500#, though you could lift 600 all day long. I've also never heard of anyone wearing snowshoes breaking their feet either....

I'd still like to hear if ANY BX tractors,have had failures with duals, with pictures of damage done.

If you put your snowshoes on the same way as a dual, you would have serious foot issues.

It's your tractor, I would keep an eye on the inner wheel for rim cracks, keep track of the lug nuts and hub.

I have seen a picture of a green one with duals all around, it looked cool. Personally I don't see a need, wouldn't want the wider footprint in the woods, I like my nimble machine. I run duals on bigger stuff, and wouldn't subject my kubota to the added stress

just one spied.. someone else dualled front as well as rears !

stress wise, snowshoes work the same, just not fun to walk in. there are 'lilypads' sold to walk on water.....

I have no need for duals on my BX23S as I know how to drive it within 'design limits'. Had a 30 year old ST12 with rare duals/forklift, zero rear axle issues so I'm curious about duals on BX tractors. While some disagree, no one has yet to show proof of damage.

The article says he paid $1900 for that setup. I think that is a foolish waste of money. Just get a set of wheel spacers and call it good. That is unless you want to be the only kid on your block with dually's on a BX.

Actually, the original question was answered definitively in post #13. I did not see any answers that seemed disrespectful. There were some opinions, mine being one of them, but opinions have always been welcome and shared on this site for as long as I have been on it.
