Dropped stick in L3800D Hydraulic Fill

Accidentally had a piece of a stick break off and fall in the hydraulic fill of my l3800d. Not sure if it will harm anything in there or if there is a way to get it out. It’s about 3-4” long piece that broke off in there.

I'd get a small clawed parts grabbing tool and get the stick out of there. If it gets chewed up it will clog somewhere and that's bad.

I tried one of those grabbers but no luck as there is an angle on the fill and it won’t take the bend.

While It does suck, the sump screen and filter should prevent any damaging particles from running through the hydraulics. That's what they are for. I have found a lot of interesting things in oil pans. Nuts, bolts, washers and what I thought was a diamond. Turned out to be a fake. Which is probably why it fell out of the ring someone was wearing.
It would give me a bad feeling though. It will degrade over time. But.... filter should do its job. If you want it out then it's time to pull the pan.

I would try to snare it with wire. I agree I'd try really hard to get it out.

Does the l3800d have a sump screen? Or is there a hydraulic pan that can be removed on the underside? Haven’t given up on trying to rush it out somehow but also wondering if it has a screen or removable pan

Wood stick, it will float in the hydraulic fluid till the gears grab it and macerate it into pulp then send it to the filter.

Is this where you stuck the stick? (green)
If so it's in the rear end and the best way to get to it is pull the hydraulic cylinder cover and remove the stick.

Second option would be to remove the PTO cover and the PTO shaft (yellow) that will give you a pretty good hole (red) to fish it out.

Wood stick, it will float in the hydraulic fluid till the gears grab it and macerate it into pulp then send it to the filter.

If so it's in the rear end and the best way to get to it is pull the hydraulic cylinder cover and remove the stick.

I do have a backhoe on the tractor and am wondering if firing it up to get the backhoe out is the way would macérate it or not. Would simply firing up the engine be ok or would that grind it up?

Yes you could start it with clutch in (clutch pedal pushed down) and NOT moving it and you would be fine.
The Gears in the rear only turn on movement, having the clutch pedal pushed in is a safety only.
This would allow you to move the BH hydraulicly.
If you need to move the tractor away from the BH after removal, I would suggest you do it manually (like pushing or pulling it, that way if the stick does get caught in the diff it should not do any damage.

One note: I would not do a normal fluid drain, that way if the sick is floating or broken it should not get moved to the front of the transmission.
Drain it from the rear axle cases, then after you've removed the stick then drain it from all other points.

One more question, if i remove the top cover instead which seems like it would give the most access would the lifting arms need to be removed or would that all come up as a complete unit? Not sure what other disassembly is involved with removing the top cover but upon reviewing the diagrams and thinking that the stick would float im guessing the top would be the better option.

Yes you can remove the whole assembly as one piece.
I don't feel that it's too involved to remove that part and yes it would give you 100% access to that area.
