Drawbar to Pintle Hook?

I’m in the process of attaching a pintle hitch to a drawbar. What is the best way to do it? I don’t mind welding it to the drawbar but can’t find anything that would work. If it could bolt to it would be even better. (Amateur welder). Any advice or photos would be greatly appreciated!

I suggest you get a drawbar (that attaches to the point under the rear axle) and bolt or weld (professionally) a receiver hitch to it. Then get a Pintle hitch that inserts into the receiver.

Then you have a pony that can do more than one trick.

i'm sure there is going to be a solution for you but would need to know what type of draw bar we be talking about, send us a pic and sure lots of solutions will be available. Lots of people here with lots of experience willing to help.

unfortunately not out at the farm right now so can't attach pictures.

my dad made a drawbar attachment that bolts on with a 2-5/16 ball for the on-road trailers. basically a heavy steel flat bar with a couple of welded side supports to hold it straight and a hole for the ball mount. two crescent hammers installs in minutes.

if I were making one today, I would buy a 2-1/2" square receiver blank and weld up a flat hitch adapter that bolts on securely in similar manner.

then you could insert any 2-1/2" or 2" (with sleeve adapter) square drawbars. drop/raised, adjustable, fixed flat, whatever you have.

I use a bullet proof (US made) adjustable bar on the trucks and a fixed solid pintle when needed, though we don't currently have any lunette eye hitches. I'd like to have a flat drawbar to receiver adapter eventually time permitting. dad was a welder for Allis 37 years so there's no shortage of welding machines out there. I was a heavy junk mechanic so "rough" welding was in my ddr.

another popular route depending on the capacity of your lift arms is a three point hitch to square tube adapter. seems like I've seen those for sale already made but not sure of a brand. nice thing about those is readily adjustable height, just need to make sure you've got yer sway bars (stabilizers) on, especially backing.

I made a pintle set up for the MX and M. There's quite a lot of adjustment since the drawbar can be flipped over and the hitch can be flipped over on the mounting plate. The D-ring on the M is to help with chaining the tractor to a trailer and also for a place to put a safety chain from the implement if needed.

When not using the pintle draw bar on the M6060 I can use the recently modified spare drawbar which allows me to chain the rear of the tractor to the trailer when hauling it. The shackles also provide a good place to attach the safety chain from the Land Pride RC3712 folding cutter to the tractor.

Great news!! I got the tractor today!! I love it!! “But”,…. I’m not sure what you pros would recommend for the best way to tackle this? Im not familiar with drawbars. Can I add to the drawbar length another 10”? My concern is how this will affect the rigidness of the draw bar? (I also don’t want to cause damage to the location the drawbar goes into). I really wish the trailer had a longer tongue on it. Is my best option to add onto the tongue? Or will I be ok adding 10” to the drawbar? (Which would be much simpler). I’d have a professional weld shop do it. I’m currently in the process of grinding out the majority of the old welds because of how bad they were.

I would recommend that you modify the trailer not the tractor side.

The further back you extend the drawbar the lighter loaded the front tires on the tractor will be which effects steering and safety.

@Stitchit1, you're discovering the pitfalls of pulling trailers with a tractor that are designed to be pulled with a truck. The tongues are never long enough. I have the same problem with both of my dump trailers, and it's why I'd really like to buy a Berkelmans Welding trailer or similar, or make my own.

I'd make up an extension that bolts to the trailer where the lunette ring is. With the proper selection of square or rectangular tubing, gussets and good welding you could make a very nice extension that could be bolted to that big plate, and removed if desired to return the trailer to standard truck use.

That thick rectangular plate with the holes at the front of the trailer's A-frame is all kinds of awesome! Seeing this project makes me wish I lived near you so that I could make up an extension. That would be a fun project and you could pay me in cups of tea!

Seriously though, that big plate gives me some ideas for my 10 ft dump trailer and a possible multi-use conversion.

Look under the tractor and see if the drawbar is fully extended, as there are multiple mounting holes.

Then get this and drill one hole to slide it over your draw bar.
That will give you the biggest versatility as you will now have a 2" reciver hitch for the draw bar.

I should have mentioned that this is an off road trailer only. I only use it on my property to haul rocks dirt and logs. I believe my next step will be taking it to a weld shop to have it done correctly. At the end of the day this is a huge safety concern which I don’t want to attempt to weld on my own for sure. I’d pay you dearly if you’d like to stop by. lol. Out of curiosity, what size of of square or rectangular tubing would you go with? I’d “really” like to be able to hand a print to the weld shop if at all possible as it would take a lot to get the trailer itself to their shop. Lastly, how long would you make said piece? I’d rather have the trailer much further away from the tractor than pictured. But not sure what a decent distance would be between the two that you’d recommend if you were doing it yourself? 3’? 4’? Too long?
