I actually have not used that gizzmo for several years. As a leaf vac. we have a zero turn and in the Fall I just put a set of blades designed for chopping leaves. That's all that's needed, so it sets.

I would not want one with the engine, etc on it. Especially if it needed work.
I think Dave has a super idea. I'd try vacuuming up the piles without water to get whatever you could. Sometime you will get the whole pile. If you're not satisfied after the initial vacuum, then apply the water in a mist (not a spray) just to dampen and loosen the pile, then vacuum it all up!
