Just so you know, a 357 won't ignite a propane tank. Ot even a truck tank. You'd have been ok. I've tried. It displaces oxygen and absorbs heat too quickly. My neighbor has Pitbulls, and so does the rest of their kids. They like to turn their dogs loose to harass, mame and kill neighboring pets. One snowy morning the Propane Delivery Truck was at our place. Our property has a 5ft chainlink fence to keep our pets in, and strays out. Anyway, the guy was at our tank...filling it. The neighbors Pitbull thought he'd come over and attack the Delivery guy....had him backed into the corner by the chimney. I heard the dog growling at him. I grabbed my 357 and went out the front door to catch him. The dog was very near to tearing the shit outta that guy. The dog was surprised when I appeared, but never backed off. The dog knew me, and apparently didn't feel I was a threat. His haunches were all cackled. I yelled at the dog to back off. He did step back, but would not back down. My new truck was behind the dog and I was hesitant to shoot, so I walked towards him on the ready. He finally backed down, tucked tail and ran for the drive gate, then under the propane truck where he stopped. He turned at me and rushed at me. The Propane truck was my worry. The dog come out from under the truck, at me on a dead run. I fired a shot to the right in the ground. That stopped the dogs state of mind from continuing. He took off out the gate and was gone.
The propane guy was shaking like a leaf from it all. I told him he should have took the hose off the tank and opened at the dog. He said he got so scared he couldn't do anything but back in behind the tank and maybe kick the dog.
After the Propane guy left. I called my neighbor, and asked if he knew where his dog was. He said no. I explained what happened. He didn't seem to care.
I told him. "Your f***ing dogs come on my property, I'll drop them", then I hung up. I called the Sheriff to get the situation on record as a complaint. The Sheriff told me, if the dogs are a threat, drop them. When you do, call us (the Sheriff) to let them know.
The animals are not the problem. Their owners are.
I don't enjoy having to shoot a domestic animal. Not that I wouldn't, I have. My tools all have a use.The best way to prevent collateral damage is to hot the target
Kidding aside, I would normally not hesitate to fire on a threat next to a LP tank. It's not going to ignite without a source of combustion (flare). I've tried tracers, LAP, etc....disappointment ensued.
Oh no, I would not enjoy it either. Just after correcting a situation with a Benchmade, it made me a bit less tolerant of strays posing a problemI don't enjoy having to shoot a domestic animal. Not that I wouldn't, I have. My tools all have a use
Benchmade = home rolledOh no, I would not enjoy it either. Just after correcting a situation with a Benchmade, it made me a bit less tolerant of strays posing a problem
