Dim control panel KX41-3v

I bought a KX41-3V and the control / instrument panel works but its so dim that its VERY hard to read even with a flashlight. I remover it and dissembled it to see if it could be fixed. Under the clear view panel there is a white paper. The white paper has a brownish wrinkled film over it. At one time could have been glued. So I have tried it white side up(no go). Brown side up sill VERY dim.
Questions: can it be fixed? Why so dim? Any suggestions?
At this point I'm considering just installing Temp and oil gage.

The last picture shows the strip that the info is displayed thru. All the date is there you just cant read it. Even with a flashlight you cannot see it all.
Checked with local dealer and was told they are only sold as a complete replacement item.
Any suggestions. I really need the info for safe operations. HELP Thanks

The display for that machine depends on its serial number.

It could be dirty contacts; or, some displays lose brightness over time.

Get us the machine serial number, then we can look up the display part number, and get a ballpark price on replacement.

Sorry, not good news.

The meter itself for that S/N was a Kubota RB237-53113. That was superseded by RB449-53113, new was $983. That's been superseded by RB449-53114 now priced around $1,250.

If this part had been in a recall, I would think the deadline is long past.

The brownish wrinkled film is likely polarizing. Can that be fixed? Likely it would take a very specialized shop that handles LCD displays.

I guess the best thing I can do at this point is try to figure out how to install a water temp and oil pressure gage. The cost if replacing it is out of my reach.
Any suggestions on the install?

If you've got some time to kill....
I'd try to find the OEM that made the LCD for the OEM that made the dash for Kubota. It might be possible to buy the LCD unit. Hopefully the numbers on the PCB and LCD will help in finding who actually made it.
I've done this in the past for client's 'special' equipment and there are websites that have 'weird' ( aka surplus ) LCD modules. Yes it WILL take time and effort to locate, but would be the best solution.

Maybe locate a Kubota machine scrapyard and buy a used display ? K made a LOT of those machines...they have to 'end up' somewhere, so again...use the Internet and Google.

If it was mine, I'd just make a new display, $30 worth of parts, cut code, install however I do have 5 decades of making stuff like this so option 'a' or 'b' will be better for you.

If things were normal, you might get a colleg kid needing a term project to make one. Actually a GREAT project as it's different than the usual stuff profs see....

Actually, if repair is beyond their interest or abilities, it could be a cool project for one or a group of the students, to design a replacement setup, using analog gages in place of the LCD display, for the two functions you mentioned that are important to you.
