Palestine, Ohio....it was a WEEK ago, just saw some footage about it.
Erin Brockovich(the REAL one) , man she did not hold back on CNN tonight ! Kinda surprised the host didn't cut here off but she was 100% right... EPA SHOULD have been then hours after it began, EVERYONE who lives withing 30-50 miles needs to be put into a 5 star hotel, all expenses paid until the head of EPA goes there and licks the soil and give 3 thumbs up....
The big unknown is WHERE the 'cloud of chemicals' will rain down, and when.

There is so much spin to this it's ridiculous. ITS NOT A CONSERICY OR COVER UP!
A train had a mechanical malfunction, it happens, then train derailed due to that mechanical malfunction, it happens, local fire fighters were fighting the fire when it exploded.
They simply couldn't contain it, it happens.

People were evacuated and news reporters that broke the mandatory evacuation orders were arrested or detained, They were told to leave and wouldn't! it was for there safety, not a fricking coverup!
We are not smart enough as a collective people to cover up something that quick!
It's simply stupid to think that anyone wanted to just brush this under the rug and ignore it.

This is also a prime example of we want our products, yet we don't want to own up to the tragedy's of what happens when things go bad.
It would be no difference then someone driving down the road and a tire fails and that auto crashes into a tanker truck and causes it to explode.
Was it the tank drivers fault for it? I don't think so.
Yea there will be a ton of investigation as to why, but it doesn't matter, it happened.
Now what does matter is what is done after the fact, like testing water, testing air, treating injuries.
I sincerely hope that all the fire fighters and anyone else got out of there alive.
Your going to have fall out from this, it's the sad reality of uncontrolled burning of chemicals that were not intended to be burnt.

We move chemicals, we move fuel, we move all sorts of things in all sorts of methods, and sometimes those methods fail.

I think most people would be shocked to find out really how many hazardous chemicals they drive by, walk around, work with, and live with, everyday.
Heck I bet most don't even know that nucellar material, fuel and weapons drive right by them on the roads, I think most think they just magically get to where they are going.
Yep it's just all safely teleported to here and there! 🙄🥴

I live right next to one of the busiest train tracks in the US, do I worry about a derailment, yea a little!
Worry more about the cars and trucks then I do the RR!
But I also have faith and hope that the RR and RR employees do the best that they can to keep it running and rolling safely.
I know quite a few RR employees and I can tell you that not a single one of them wants top deal with an accident because they didn't do the best job they can!

The version I heard was that the train set off a hotbox detector and the train dispatcher ordered the crew to continue on another 30 miles instead of stopping the train and fixing the overheated wheel bearing thus causing the failure. I used to live near a hotbox detector outside of South Bend, IN and if it ever sensed a hotbox or dragging equipment the crew would stop the train and walk it down.

If the dispatcher indeed ordered them to proceed, that should be cause for some investigation.

You know, we could all just go back to living in caves. The spin on this is stupid. Social media would have you believe that it impacts 60 of Ohio’s 88 counties and that contaminated water will flow uphill throughout the region. They also are saying that all farm animals within a 30 mile radius are all dropping dead.
As with anything. Do your own research and if it doesn’t sound right, then it possibly isn’t.
Saw another post yesterday about a derailment in Houston that was allegedly releasing more toxins than the Ohio spill. Video showed double stack containers next to an expressway. No hazmat, no containment, people next to the cars and traffic flowing as normal. I will remain skeptical of anything I see in the news or on social media.

On the news this morning they did report that the RR did not notify the State that there were hazardous materials on this train as required by law. From what I gather they are supposed to notify so crews know when and where those shipments will travel. Kind of like the hazardous cargo exclusions we have here to keep bad stuff out of cities. Great ideas when they made the laws back in the 70’s when the majority of folks lived inside the beltways, now they are just sending the stuff through the highly populated suburbs.

Definitely seems a coverup and most of the media blackout. However, if your "news" isn't telling you that, I can understand why you might think it's not.

We don't know the long term consequences of the Ohio derailment chemicals, but the pollution of the water only potentially affects 1/10 of the people in the US ... not a big deal.

Seems like the agenda of not covering the train derailments feeds the narrative that trains are safe, pipelines are not. The details I've heard show that the people are being ignored or the response is incompetence. The money we spent on infrastructure doesn't seem to be helping anything.

Of course, the easy solution is to cover all of the details with a response from the agencies in charge. Then, people won't have to come up with their own theories.

Wolfman is 100% correct about the hazardous chemicals going down our roads every day. I used to work for a trucking company that had a tanker division and I couldn’t believe some of the stuff they would haul. One chemical was so concentrated that one drop on your skin was fatal. If you come upon an accident involving a tanker and it is leaking, call 911 and get out of there! Unless you know what the warning placards on the tanker are telling you that is

This 'assumes' you can see the tanker and placard(s).

Definitely seems like a minor event that doesn't make the cut for national news. Happens all the time.

Most people don't know that the police clearly planted at least one piece of the evidence in the O.J. Simpson murder case. Why? Because it got buried in all the other news that was going on at the time. Unless you were listening to the trial live, or heard it on an interview at 4 AM on a slow news day (like I did), you just didn't hear about it.

There are many news stories and interviews that don't see the light of day simply because they get pushed down the list by other stories that are deemed more important. There is only so much time and space available to report things, and all news agencies have to prioritize.

When things are hot on the national scene, local stories get pushed off the screen.

A morbid joke about haz mat was , Where does the hot zone end. The answer is where the last trooper dropped from exposure.
We had a local trucking company that would loan us a tanker and placards for drills. On several occasions we would radio to the first units and tell them that the crew is sick and coughing up their lungs and the truck is out of service as they got into a cloud. Have a seat until the drill is over.
I was expecting to see a tanker car BLEVE (explode) and make a real mess but the responders handled it well.
Placards. If you are close enough to read the placard you may already be too close. Watch the wind and use binoculars.

Download the Emergency Response Guidebook app on your phone and use it while traveling. Plug in some of the 4 digit numbers on the placards locate on trucks. Helps pass the time on those long road trips.

Being young and uneducated I was told to open a tanker of the above shipment and take a sample. No mask and no safety equipment. Got a face full of vapor. Left that job and got educated on just what I was doing. Got much smarter but will always have some lung damage.
Tickle four is such a nice name for Titanium Tetrachloride and it is nasty. Those little placards on a tankers mean so much more than the average person knows.
Our lives are surrounded by nasty stuff, we just do not know about it until it hits the fan.
