There is so much spin to this it's ridiculous. ITS NOT A CONSERICY OR COVER UP!
A train had a mechanical malfunction, it happens, then train derailed due to that mechanical malfunction, it happens, local fire fighters were fighting the fire when it exploded.
They simply couldn't contain it, it happens.

People were evacuated and news reporters that broke the mandatory evacuation orders were arrested or detained, They were told to leave and wouldn't! it was for there safety, not a fricking coverup!
We are not smart enough as a collective people to cover up something that quick!
It's simply stupid to think that anyone wanted to just brush this under the rug and ignore it.

This is also a prime example of we want our products, yet we don't want to own up to the tragedy's of what happens when things go bad.
It would be no difference then someone driving down the road and a tire fails and that auto crashes into a tanker truck and causes it to explode.
Was it the tank drivers fault for it? I don't think so.
Yea there will be a ton of investigation as to why, but it doesn't matter, it happened.
Now what does matter is what is done after the fact, like testing water, testing air, treating injuries.
I sincerely hope that all the fire fighters and anyone else got out of there alive.
Your going to have fall out from this, it's the sad reality of uncontrolled burning of chemicals that were not intended to be burnt.

We move chemicals, we move fuel, we move all sorts of things in all sorts of methods, and sometimes those methods fail.

I think most people would be shocked to find out really how many hazardous chemicals they drive by, walk around, work with, and live with, everyday.
Heck I bet most don't even know that nucellar material, fuel and weapons drive right by them on the roads, I think most think they just magically get to where they are going.
Yep it's just all safely teleported to here and there! 🙄🥴

I live right next to one of the busiest train tracks in the US, do I worry about a derailment, yea a little!
Worry more about the cars and trucks then I do the RR!
But I also have faith and hope that the RR and RR employees do the best that they can to keep it running and rolling safely.
I know quite a few RR employees and I can tell you that not a single one of them wants top deal with an accident because they didn't do the best job they can!
All the reports I read indicated the fire was intentional. (you mentioned, " local fire fighters were fighting the fire when it exploded.") The governor decide to "vent and burn the chemicals because there was a high probability of an explosion."

Now the governors, Shapiro and DeWine are blaming Norfolk Southern RR.

I am fuzzy on the facts but I thought they detonated the cars to avoid the impeding BLEVE's. A training video attached. I would assume the fire departments simple did not have enough water to cool all that steel. Detonate and contain, beats having rail cars taking flight.

Yea the more I hear and read the more I think there is a lot of blame on Norfork Southern operation.

I feel sorry for the train operators. As the lawyers circle the wagons the train crew will be vilified.
Norfolk will summon up the Washington DC lobbyists and get congress to clear the way for them.
If the rails stop our economy stops.

I saw a reports where folks went to motels to get out of the area. The RR agreed to pay the motel cost if they would sign a release from any suit. Seems pharmaceuticals figured out how to protect themselves with the covid vaccination suit possibilities and now it's spreading.

Of course, we don't have all of the details, but expecting everyone to sign a release before Norfolk Southern cleans up their mess seems really wrong.

Also, with as many derails are seem to be happening, the federal govt should enact emergency rules. One thought is make their max speed be less until they figure it out. But, I guess the transportation secretary might have to go to work to do it.

re: One thought is make their max speed be less until they figure it out.

This train, according to video 20 miles before wasn't going that fast, true is WAS ON FIRE, but not going fast....

IDIOTS up here, derailed and killed all 3 'engineers' in Burlington,Ontario a few years ago. They were almost DOUBLE the posted speed limit, made a mess....easy preventable IF they'd been driving the posted speed. The still have not added a simple $200 'computer' to stop this from happening again.

Just saw a talking head showing the wording of a pending lawsuit dealing with possible cancer in the future. These folks have no idea of what they will be asked. I have been in that arena.
Typical questions to get you off the list:
Did you ever smoke anything ?
Did you ever use spray paint without a mask?
Did you ever change your own oil without gloves?
Do you pump your own gas and ever smelled gasoline?
Have you ever re-finished furniture without gloves and a mask?
Have you ever questioned the NEW smell in a car or rug for your house?
Did you serve in the military and where ?
Did you know that freight trains ran this line? Well you should have !
Unless the per person cancer rate is way above norms it is very hard to prove.
It is an ugly business and the railroads have really good lawyers.

My past and present vices would get me excluded in a heart beat. That diesel exhaust a couple of feet in front of me included.

Not really any more then usual. The news media is just latching on to the topic to get eyeballs.
There are about 1100 derailment each year (about 3 per day) in the US, trending downward.
Not making any comment one way or the other about the Ohio incident.

Wolfman is 100% correct about the hazardous chemicals going down our roads every day. I used to work for a trucking company that had a tanker division and I couldn’t believe some of the stuff they would haul. One chemical was so concentrated that one drop on your skin was fatal. If you come upon an accident involving a tanker and it is leaking, call 911 and get out of there! Unless you know what the warning placards on the tanker are telling you that is
There's a factory that one of the branches my company deals with that manufactures similar chemicals.

If they rent pumps, there are super strict guidelines for tearing the equipment down after use and cleaning it completely before returning.

If we've been having 3 derails a day, there isn't much work being done to stop them. Sometimes, the facts don't make us feel better!
I have to wonder how many of those are due to crumbling infrastructure.

But my main point was that facts are much better than theories and baseless claims.
