After buying a 5/16 grade 43 chain that was 12ft long that I cut in half to have two 6 footers with hooks to add to my collection, there is no where to keep them on my B2650 to lift or rig things when you need to. I decided I needed to fab a heavy duty tool box to mount to the tractor to store them. I decided to fab and mount one to the loader frame where there is 2 existing holes. I got some 1/8" steel plate and cut it to make a 10 1/2" long x 8" high x 4" wide toolbox. This size fit nicely in this spot and not be in the way or be too low to snag on something. I welded on 2 grade 8 3/8" bolts to the back of the box to mount it using a jig I made to make sure the bolts were aligned perfectly. The biggest problem I had was how to mount the lid. I couldnt mount hinges on the inside and open it towards the tractor due to things in the way. I didnt want to bolt or weld hinges on the outside because I wanted a nice clean look. I decided to make the lid pivot in the front and swing open, with a spring mounted there to hold it down in the front and a heavy duty draw hasp in the back to secure it.

Excellent spot for a chain box at an excellent height! Good idea for the cover! Enjoy your build!

I admire the creativity of metal workers, spoken by a man who works with wood.
Sure would love to buy one of those.I think the placement and design is genius.

Thanks for the comments Yooper. Appreciate them coming from someone that has the talents that you do in fabrication. A friend of mine owns a machine shop and has all the toys, so I have seen some pretty neat projects. His shop enables me to do some dumpster diving and get cut offs for my little projects. I do everything in my shop with my little welding table I made, 4 1/2 grinder for grinding and cutting out the pieces I need, and my Lincoln 140 amp mig welder which I am still learning on. It does help to have time to do things now.

Your my kind of guy. Keep it going! BTW, does your welder run on 120v?
Yes. It runs on 120 or 240. I have been using it with the 120.

Grouse09 and lescarpenteir thanks for the comments. Appreciate it. I have become real good freinds with the owner of the Kubota dealership where I bought my tractor. When I showed him my toolbox the first thing he said is that he wanted me to make some more for him to sell with a tractor if someone was interested. Might have to think about fabbing up a few more to put out!

I found the 5/16" chain at Lowes of all places. It was orange grade 43, 12ft long with grade 70 hooks on it in a package for like $28.00. I wanted 2-6 footers so I bought another set of hooks and cut in half. I was wanting to get that chain but never dreamed you could get it already painted orange! Bonus. They actually had it orange on a roll you could buy by the foot.
