Poohbear,,, ya gota remember you cant fix stupid, no matter how much duct tape you use !
I fully understand as I have some cousins I think sometimes thier daddy might have had a little " help " .
I don't know if it's a thing to be alarmed about but was just reading an article by the Miami Herald that a new study in Wuhan showing us type A blood folks the most deaths. 63% more than O. Could just be that it's simply one of the more common type. That's what I'm hopeing but you know about hope, poop in one hand & hope in the other. Which gets full first ?
O+ is most common in US followed by A+ which I am A+

Good find D2, we just have to avoid catching it until some of these ideas can be checked out.

First death in Michigan this morning at Beaumont. In his 50's.

Is the sky falling? Not for me but the 'ceiling' is pretty overcast right now...

I believe that your health and stamina will have an effect same as age. Young alone does not guarantee longevity with or without this corona.

8 out 10 will eventually 'catch' it. It remains to be see if catching it woll prove fatal.

Problem is, you catch it and best it, you can get it again and again, it's not a one time shot.

Totally agree, there's nothing better for you than a brisk walk everyday which we just got back from and the stationary bike is awesome on days that are just too nasty to walk. Seen that on the news this morning sheepfarmer, no one is safe from this crap.

Flip I'm not sure where you're getting you're information but I don't think anyone really knows for sure what the long term consequences will be, it's just too soon.

All over. I spent yesterday reading medical opinions from medical experts worldwide.

I know what the long term consequences are just as you do. BAD.

Re: Is the sky falling?

Here's a couple of existing meds that are thought to possibly help. The Losartan is used for SARS, which is Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrone.

https://thehill.com/policy/healthca...ing-two-generic-drugs-as-possible-coronavirus
I wondered about that family of drugs. They are in common use to treat high blood pressure, they are the ARBs, angiotensin receptor blockers. From what I read the corona virus binds to angiotensin receptors which are found on blood vessels, lung cells, heart muscle cells etc in varying quantities to gain entry into the cell. If there is a drug molecule already on a receptor on the surface of that cell, would it block binding by the virus? There are several drugs in that group, including Candesartan, also available as a generic. It will be interesting to see if it pans out. Would be great as there is a lot of it available.

It has been bandied about that the ACE inhibitors, angiotensin enzyme inhibitors that reduce effective angiotensin, another way of reducing blood pressure, were causing patients more troubles because an effect of reducing the enzyme is to cause an increase in the numbers of receptors the cell puts on its surface, and therefore more receptors available for the virus to bind to in the lungs especially.

Re: Is the sky falling?

Ok here is my helpful hint for the day, in case you are not a lab rat like I was.

I was at the service station yesterday to fill up my truck and my 5 gal cans for the tractors, and NO ONE was taking any kind of precautions while pumping fuel. The virus lives 72 hours on steel or plastic. There are an alarming number of infected people showing no symptoms, and no doubt going about their lives as usual, including handling gas pumps with dirty hands, making it a good idea to protect yourself unless you are lucky enough to get your fuel delivered in bulk. I've seen several posts that gas pumps have been a source of infections

How to use disposable gloves when pumping fuel:

You can use the disposable gloves you may have already in your shop, get at the grocery store or TSC or Harbor Freight.

Think ahead. Your truck, steering wheel, wallet are presumed clean (virus free). If not deal with it. You can clean your cell phone, wallet, credit cards, steering wheel with Chlorox wipes or Rubbing alcohol on a paper towel. Sunshine is a good disinfectant for the outside of big things like trucks.

Have two new gloves laid out on the seat, as well as credit card. Unload your presumed clean fuel cans and remove lids with your clean bare hands. Undo the fuel fill cap on your truck. Put on your gloves and insert credit card with one hand; if you have to touch the buttons on the pump use the other hand. Remove your credit card and put it down on seat with the still "clean hand". Then use both gloved hands as needed to handle the pump, and fill cans and truck with fuel. When finished, put the pump handle back in its slot, punch yes or no to question about receipt, and then remove gloves by grasping at wrist and turning inside out. Dispose in trash immediately. Then using clean hands put all the lids back in place, put cans back in truck, and lid back on fuel fill, climb back in your truck and take off. If you have any, and are OCD, use hand sanitizer once you are back in truck just in case.

There are probably other ways of doing this, but the hard part is to remember what is contaminated by some invisible substance, and act accordingly. If you leave the contaminated gloves on, and get in and then use the steering wheel you are not accomplishing anything.

Used to drive me nuts when students would carefully use gloves to handle some highly toxic chemical in the lab, then walk out the door and punch the buttons on the elevator with the same gloves.

Re: Is the sky falling?

Sheepfarmer, what do I do when I get a UPS box delivered? Maybe leave it outside for a day?:D

I did notice what you were describing at the station yesterday. Stopped once to get a couple of 5 gal. of diesel for tractor, then stopped back by a few hours later on my way home. Both times I noticed no one being protective.

I use clorox wipes after I get back in and wipe off the inside door handle, steering wheel, even my dogs nose!!:D (kidding)

Yup I use gloves with a wet soap/beach solution on them when I pick up packages.

Open packages and mail outside. Boxes or junk mail stays outside.

Wipe inside items down with bleach solution. And leave the mail in the box for 23hrs just before the next delivery comes in.

I guess there have been Amazon warehouse workers who tested positive.
