“because the dealership said that is what they recommended”….can be problematical. The guy behind the counter’s recommendation can be just his own opinion…. not based upon mfr’r recommendations.
I ran into this at my Kubota dealership. (A large chain known as “Ewald Kubota”)
The counter-guy and his supervisor were both quite adamant that I should use an off-brand “universal tractor fluid” in my ‘96-era M4700DT. (They had a large stack of 5-gal pails in a nice display along the show-room wall.)
I wanted to use SUDT…. and I would have thought that more-expensive product would have met with their approval…. but No… They continued to push an aftermarket brand of UTF.
So I bought their UTF and brought it home planning to change the fluid when my new-to-me used Kubota came up to 600 hr service requirement.
Subsequently I read the Kubota Owners Manual for my tractor and discovered it stated that the Factory-Fill since New …was SUDT….
I took the UTF back to exchange for SUDT…and those guys Still Insisted that SUDT was “not necessary or recommended” in the warmer climates down here in Texas.
I told them….”I don’t care what You Guys Think My Tractor should have….. I WANT what the Factory put in it when it was Built!…. and that is SUDT.”
I paid the difference in price and installed SUDT.
Parts-counter and Service-guys SHOULD be properly-informed…but that’s no guarantee their personal opinions don’t get into the mix. Just sayin’…..
