Connecting a battery charger

I've read several posts on the forum regarding connecting battery chargers to Kubota tractors, but have not found a discussion on this specific topic. I have a Deltran Battery Tender Jr that I plan to use to charge the battery on my BX 2370. Deltran makes a cigarette lighter adapter (part 081-0069-5) for this charger. I would like to use the adapter at the 12 VDC receptacle on the tractor to charge the battery. I don't want to remove the battery to attach a pigtail, as removing the battery is a bit of a PIA. The adapter and receptacle are well within the limits of the 750mA output of the Battery Tender Jr. charger.

Do any of you pros on this forum see any issues with charging in this manner.

Thanks

I don't know the BX very well but if the cigarette lighter isn't hot with the key off you'll need to run the battery tender with the key on. If memory serves this will run the hour meter.

Despite being a little PITA, removing the battery is not that bad, having the correct wrench in hand makes it a lot easier!

What I have found, with the tenders that you "bolt" on, the damn loops in the permanent connections are too small to hook to the terminals!!!

On the last two - I have had to grind out the loop to fit the terminal, once that was complete, the leads stick out in a "nice" place;)

Best way I found and this is what I did on my bx2370 is use this optimate sae socket just drill a hole on the left side of the dash slide in the socket then hook up your pigtail to your battery and plug it in is literaly a 5 minute project I also suggest a good step drill bit to drill your hole here's the link to the ultimate socket https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003...e+optimate&dpPl=1&dpID=41GTCQXr81L&ref=plSrch

Since it was a PITA to connect the pigtail to the battery on my Bobcat, I connected the pigtail to the end of the positive cable by the starter and a convenient ground connection.

not sure if there is a big difference in your machine vs my old BX23, but I used a battery tender jr as well. I simply connected to the battery and ran the pigtail between the radiator screen and the dash. The pigtail connector was plenty long enough to hang down from that gap between the two and made for an easy connection location that didn't interfere with your feet.

just traded that machine yesterday (still on the original battery) after 11 years. I have battery tender jrs. on all my equipment.

Thanks to all who replied, and for your great ideas. Well, the 12VDC receptacle is only "hot" with the ignition on, so that will be a non-starter. I was thinking about connecting the charger pigtail to the positive lead to the starter, and a nearby ground, as "tthorkil" suggested. Before removing the battery, I will see if this arrangement works for me. There are several options available, but I would like to find the best one that does not require removing the battery. I don't understand why Kubota didn't provide an easily accessable charging port like you find on cars with batteries located in the rear of the car, as is the case with my two GM vehicles. Both have charging ports easy to reach under the hood.

Thanks

My Yamaha Rhino had an "ignition on only" cigarette lighter receptacle. I re-wired it to my accessory block to make it hot all the time, and now I plug my tender in there.
On the tractor, I just wired in a pigtail on the steering column as shown in the pic.

I mounted a Battery Tender 1.25A battery maintainer to the top of my battery (zip tied), it stays there. I have the plug end pigtail hanging out, this is the 110VAC plug and when its parked, it just remains plugged in all the time. Its UL listed, so it shouldn't burn my tractor to the ground like some cheap junk ones will if they don't just quit all together.

FWIW The directions for the Deltran say to put the charger as far away from the battery as possible and NOT above it to avoid damage to the charger from the gases from the battery.
